Family Ties

Another new place, the third one in the span of only two months. Another new place, and Hannah was tired. After everything she and Abigail had been through during the past week, she felt no different from a zombie herself. She wished she could be surprised that one of their group members had turned against them, but in all honesty, she wasn’t. The selfishness and cruelty of this new world had become normal to her.
As she and Abigail trudged carefully through the gates of this new place (because apparently whoever lived here had enough resources to provide actual gates), Hannah found herself wondering how long things would last this time. Judging by the line of houses she saw before them, it was bigger than anyplace they’d stayed at before. And there were more people too, more strangers staring at them with their curious eyes and clean clothes and faces that never mattered and were all the same...
Except for one.
Stopping short, Hannah stared at one particular face in the crowd that was nothing like any of the others. She was hallucinating, she had to be. She’d long ago accepted that after the world had become what it was now, her brother was most likely dead. He was... right?
Hannah’s eyes widened and in a tiny, hoarse voice, she finally spoke.
“Glenn?”
