USA 1997
Id Software 3D first person shooter broke ground when it released in 1996. While it hasn't aged as well as Doom, thanks to the GL/Windows release this game can be run at high modern resolutions. Modded have also release plenty of mods and bonus campaign. This video show the Steam GLQuake version using the dark place mod for the title, while the consoles version only ever featured the base game.
The PC version received two official mission packs Scourge of Armagon & Dissolution of Eternity. An unofficial third pack called Abyss Of Pandemonium and a 20th Anniversary fifth episode known as Dimension of the Past. Plus mode fan mods than you can shake a stick at. The music was done by Michael Trent Reznora of the band Nine Inch Nails, however for unknown reasons most modern releases don't including the OST and require it being modded back in.
