About 50% of Recalled GM Cars Still Not Fixed
General Motors has been at the very top of the list of companies with the higher rates of auto recalls in the United States this year. Its major recall related to ignition switch issues that was issued nine months ago continues to give the company a headache.
Given the fact the company only issued the recall alert ten years after the first reports of issues were registered, that may not sound as a surprise to anyone but hundreds of accidents linked to the defects have been registered.
After the company was grilled by Congress during the investigation procedures into the company's delay in responding to the reports of accidents, GM now has to deal with another issue: affected vehicles are not being repaired.
According to recent reports, just 1.26 million, or 53 percent of the 2.6 million vehicles affected by the recall have been repaired thus far.
Reports involving accidents that resulted in death linked to these issues have also been haunting GM, especially since the recall has already been issued and people are still reportedly crashing their vehicles because of the ignition switch problem.
The latest report associated with the unrepaired vehicles involves a fatal accident that occurred with a driver who had reportedly attempted to have her 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt repaired twice before the deadly accident took over.
If this issue is not addressed and more people are involved in personal injury accidents linked to the ignition switches, more deaths could be reported. GM is being urged to make sure all vehicles are fixed promptly to avoid further problems.
