1x03 - Girl Meets Sneak Attack
I really enjoy how respectful you are of other people and their ships. Even though I don't ship rilaya (i'm lucaya trash oops), you are an awesome addition to this fandom and I'm very glad you watch the show. Question: When was the moment you started shipping rilaya?
I try to be respectful. I feel like I sometimes fall short of that goal, but I tend to use cuts and anti tags when I get especially negative so people can avoid those posts if they want to.
The moment I started shipping Rilaya was 1x03 - Girl Meets Sneak Attack. With “I wish the world was just me and you” and the continuing depth of their friendship, I was falling fast. I remember thinking to myself, “I know the theme of this episode was about not rushing into dating, but I’m really starting to ship Riley and Maya. It’s 2014; it could happen, right?” I liked the idea more and more over time, but when I became serious trash was during 1x17 - Girl Meets Game Night. After months of vaguely liking the idea, and coming in fresh off The Legend of Korra finale, the Corpanga parallels blew my mind. Then, in the immediate next episode 1x18 - Girl Meets Master Plan, Riley got them matching rings and I thought it was beautiful. But when I truly evolved from Trubbish to Garbodor was in 1x20 - Girl Meets First Date, with even heavier Corpanga parallels and the two of them showing deep devotion to each other. It was shortly after 1x20 that I decided to make this blog because I knew I would need a dedicated outlet for all of the squee.
What shocked me the most was that so many people started following this blog so quickly. I feel like I say this about once a week, but I assumed I’d be blogging into the void or maybe geeking out with two other people. This fandom is strong and seems to be a generally positive group as far as I can tell. It’s encouraging to think that so many people are at least open to the idea of Rilaya, even if they don’t necessarily ship it.
And even though I’m major Rilaya trash, I do kind of like Lucaya. I think they have an interesting dynamic and a decent amount of chemistry between them. I’m probably never going to truly ship Riley or Maya with anyone but each other, but I can acknowledge that Lucaya has potential. And though I’ve noticed plenty of benevolent fans of pretty much every ship, the Lucaya fans do seem like an especially chill group of people from what I’ve seen of them.
