Strangers on a Strange Shore
Disembarking onto Jawdocks Landing, Hima and Rafa were greeted by a bustling, chaotic energy of shop owners running to and fro. A bevy of merchants and tradespersons were busily picking items off the floor and making the space around them clutter free for patrons. Clearly something had happened here recently.
The two travel companions, a goblin monk and a viashino criminal, couldn't help notice the side-eyed glances and mumbling curses as they walked through the streets of the massive entrance to Titan's Grave. An information kiosk stood in the very center of the massive beast's maw. Predicting their need, a slender elf girl handed them a map to Titan's Grave and promptly turned away to focus on bringing order to the tiny booth around her.
"Uh, thanks, I guess," Hima said perplexed. "It seems we're not all too welcome here, Rafa."
"Speak for yourself, friend-guide." The green-scaled viashino looked around. "All I am seeing are eyes busy with curiosity. Perhaps, I am more welcome here than you?"
"It's possible. We'll push forward then. We are here for a reason, after all."
As Hima checked and rechecked the map, stopping every now and then to ask directions, he led himself and Rafa through the twists and turns of the Jawdocks marketplace onto what would have been the great beast's shoulder.
Rafa huffed a heavy breath over the friend-guide's shoulder. "How much further must we walk? It must be an hour since we left the market center."
The goblin monk shot an exasperated look at his partner. "It shouldn't be too long. That dryad we passed said that if we found ourselves in a place called 'Ulna Alley', we went too far." Taking on a more concerned expression, Hima continued, "We can always stop for a while if you need to rest."
The viashino chuffed at the idea. "No, I don't need rest." Walking ahead of the goblin monk, Rafa queried, "Why are we here again, anyway?"
"We're looking for something that could help jog your memory," Hima reassured his friend. "We didn't get a chance to do so in Lorwyn. With you and I having been ambushed by that band of Noggles. Canava and Sidhar coming across Ćeran and that whole eyeblight business. I suppose we should take comfort in the fact we all found each other again and made it here to Arcavios."
"Aye, and I am glad to have you as a friend-guide. Without you, I may have died the moment I set foot on Tarkir."
The friendly monk smiled. "Friend, Rafa. Just call me friend." He checked the map, then scanned the landscape ahead of them. "It should be around that corner up there."

The Good Humor Shoppe was the first storefront along this stretch of road. Upon entering there were rows and rows of potions and elixirs, pills and powders in the center of the store. Along its walls were trays of plants, containers holding insects, and dishes propagating a variety of fungus.
Hima immediately went to speak with the shop owner. Rafa, growing tired of being spoken about but not spoken to, drifted to the outside walls, taking account of the contents therein. His eyes noted the plants and insects, all which looked quite tasty. He walked up to the wall of fungus and his eyes caught something familiar.
Speaking aloud, Rafa said with a shaky voice. "I... I know these." Crouching down to get a better view of the fungal stalks, Rafa continued. "This is wrong. These shouldn't be here."
Hima stood by Rafa's side. "I think I can remember," exclaimed the viashino. And with one quick motion, the shop owner flicked the cap of one of the fungi nearest to Rafa's nose.

"Well, doctor, can you do it?"
Rafa of Clan Conchúr looked down at the person in the bed before him. The number of bullet holes and burn marks that riddled the man's body were nearly uncountable. "Of course, I can save him. The question is, should I without contacting..."
"No authorties, I told you. We do it here and we do it now. Or he, and you, both die."
"Alright, alright," Rafa acquiesced. "I'll need some extra hands to assist.."
"You get one pair to help. She's the boss man's daughter." The other man turned to the door and nodded his head. "Here, you have all the time you need to fix up the boss. Remember though, if he dies, you die."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rafa of Clan Conchúr slipped into an alleyway, his breath heavy and ragged. The constables had been chasing him all night. He deliberately avoided alleyways and shortcuts so as to throw them off once he found his way here. The safehouse would protect him, as long as the family wasn't using it.
Rafa had been working for the Tyrant crime family for six years. Working for them and as a legitimate surgeon made for some rough nights and tired eyes. He never let that affect his work, though. And it never did, until last night.
The viashino surgeon had been working a 36 hour shift in the hospital's operating room. Rafa would have still been there had a member of the crime family not been in Rafa's office.
"The boss needs you now, doctor."
"How bad is he this time?"
"It's not him you'll be working on. It's his girl."
Allosa, the daughter of the Tyrant crime boss. The love of Rafa's life. Allosa had been nervous to assist the doctor on his first job to patch up her father. With the doctor proving his skills useful, Tyran put him on the payroll, no questions asked.
Since then, Allosa had gotten closer to Rafa. Her shyness giving way to a nervous excitement with each time she was ordered to assist the doctor. Rafa had worked on countless members of the Tyrant crime family, many times numerous members in a single night.
Rafa had begun not only enjoying Allosa's presence but looked forward and expected it. The two began a secret romance. Her father, Tyran, would never accept his daughter in a relationship with the help. The two of them would enjoy meals, walks in the park, a stolen kiss here and there. All under the not-so-watchful eyes of Allosa's chaperones.
To hear that the person Rafa would be working to keep alive was Allosa herself caused the doctor much anxiety and restlessness. As Tyran's personal chauffer parked the coach in the garage of the crime boss's house, Rafa jumped out and raced to where others were waiting for him.
"She's over here, doctor. The dining room table was the nearest surface we thought to bring her."
"What happened?", he immediately demanded.
"There was a hit on her father. Allosa was with him at the time."
"The hit was successful, sir. Now focus on Allosa. She is the head of the Tyrant crime family now."
And that's is what Rafa of Clan Conchúr did. He worked on his battered and bruised lover for three hours. He had her stabilized, ready to sew up and bandage. And then she seized. A violent and sudden jerk caused him to knick an artery. Rafa couldn't stop the flow of life leaving Allosa's body. Rafa knew he was going to lose his love. He knew then, also, that he would soon lose his life.
He hadn't just ran. In an attempt to keep himself from being cornered, Rafa lashed out. Nothing life-threatening but he still held a scalpel and he still had his claws. Entering into a blood frenzy of fear and dismay, Rafa fought his way out of the Tyran family manor.
Rafa ran from Tyran's men and soon found himself running from the constables who were paid by Tyran himself. News of the crime boss's and his daughter's death arrived swiftly in the right circles. Rafa knew he'd have a bounty and a warrant out on his head.
Finally, Rafa had come to the safehouse in the alley. He worked the lock just right to gain access and the door flew open. He closed the door behind him as he entered. At first, it seemed as if no one else was present. Relaxed in this though, Rafa began to breakdown at the realization of all that went down this night.
That's when a small, frail saurian female stepped out of the shadows. Rafa recognized her. She had been Allosa's governess during her childhood. The elder female said to Rafa, "Calm down, my boy. You are safe here."
Rafa, still shaking slightly, burst into tears at the sight of the governess. He noticed a blue light flickering in and out behind her.
"Word has reached even out here. I know you wouldn't have let Allosa die on purpose. Tyran's empire is in chaos, though, and the other families know this."
"Honestly, I don't care about Tyran or the other crime families now." Rafa's eyes plead with the elder governess. "She's gone. Allosa's gone and I lost her."
The older viashino embraced Rafa and led him closer to that flickering blue illuminance. "I don't know what to do," he let slip, closer now to fearing for his own life.
"I know, my boy", she spoke softly, a hand slipping into a pouch at her side. "I know what to do." Rafa looked at her quizically. She blew a fine dust of something in Rafa's face, saying one word. "Forget." And, with Rafa grabbing at his eyes, the elder viashino grabbed the doctor and flung him backwards into the omenpath that had opened inside the safehouse.
Rafa sat up in the cot he had been moved to, startled at what he had just learned. Hima was at his side. The owner of the Good Humor Shopped sat at the head of the cot, wringing out a damp cloth.
"Hima? What...?" Rafa looked at his friend, his eyes tearing up. "I do not feel good about myself. I remember. I remember I lost the one I loved." And with that, the criminal doctor collapsed in Hima's arms and wept.
