田中太郎:It wouldn’t be my preference, but in the end I’d like to think that I could thrive anywhere if I absolutely needed to. I’d rather thrive than drown.
田中太郎:I’ll talk to you soon.
Mikado closed his laptop with a sigh, staring out the window. Masaomi had probably been right to keep him away from all electronics. The young man almost laughed thinking perhaps his best friend should have kept them away longer. He shoved the laptop off and got to his shaky, underused legs. Hopefully Izaya’s apartment would be a little safe for a little longer, otherwise Mikado would have to hope that old habits and skills would come back to him in a pinch.
The nurse on duty at the desk questioned his choice to be released early, but the once gang leader smiled and assured her that he would be staying with a friend. With another smile that could only belong to a confident, but overly innocent young man he was all checked out and clutching his bag strap as though the incident from so long ago had never happened at all.
A couple of hours later he was in Shinjuku, checking his phone for the time trying to hold off his nerves. Despite knowing where the apartment was located he had never been there himself. It had never been necessary when everything was easily handled over the phone or through private chats. Mikado wondered if he stood out in such a nice building when he was dressed in his street clothes. Maybe I should have worn my school uniform… I should find out if I even still have one…
The young man made sure no one saw him, as per instructed, while trying to blend into the building. He made his way to the right door and hesitated near the button for the bell before just pushing the door open. The gesture was almost too rude for him, but Izaya had said the door would be open. “Hello?” Mikado called, “I’m here…” He shut the door behind him and looked around the apartment without entering it. Woah… it’s so big…
