"Morgan," she said softly, keeping her tone soothing, "come here. Please. It's all right."
"Me too!" He chuckled when he got his hair ruffled. "It took all my willpower to not eat it on the spot. I don’t normally like sweet things, but it smelled so good… I couldn’t help but drool over the cake."
"I was never big on sweets, but Gaius bribed me with so many that I can't help but like them. Where is this cake? If we aren't careful, someone else might find it."
"Mother! Happy Birthday! I know you were brought into this world for selfish and wicked reasons, but we all know you can overcome it. You're my mother and a master tactician. No one will beat you, not even a god!" A slight pause. "Oh! I also got you a cake for your birthday! Need something sweet to celebrate a sweet day."
Ah, Morgan. Robin had been expecting him to wish her a happy birthday, but to get her a cake was a bit of a surprise. Still, she grinned at her son and lightly ruffled his hair, laughing softly.
"Thank you, Mor. Why don’t we go share a piece or two of that cake? I’m dying to see how it tastes!“
"Uncle Frederick! Can I get your help with something? I want to get better at making really good... um, what do you call it... battle cries? I practiced once with Cynthia, but I right they were rather weak."
"Certainly, Morgan. Believe it or not, a battle cry is a tested method of boosting one’s own morale in a combat situation. A rallying point, if you will, that can both boost your own abilities while potentially striking fear into the hearts of your enemy.
An effective war cry is made of three crucial components: purpose, spirit, and delivery. To begin: your cry should have purpose behind it. The words you choose for it should empower you with courage or intimidate your opponent.
Secondly, you must infuse your battle cry with your own spirit. It is not enough to simply choose a string of words that sound good; you must put yourself into them. The words you choose should resonate with who you are and what values you stand for. Once you’ve internalised that; the rest shall come naturally.
Finally, there is delivery. It is all well and good to put together a few poignant words, but getting them out to serve their purpose is essential to your cry’s effectiveness. Perhaps I should demonstrate? *ahem*
PICK A GOD AND PRAY!
As you can see, my own personal war cry combines an intimidation and motivation factor, a personal flair, and a strong delivery.
What you may not understand is that a war cry does not simply have to be a phrase you call out before striking down your opponent. It can come in the form of a speech, a prayer, a moment of reflection, or even a rally to arms.
My best advice to you, Morgan, is to refine your war cry and to practice it often and with feeling. You are a talented young man with his mother’s mind for strategy and his father’s relentless passion. Perhaps one day, the battle cry you develop might give you the extra boost you need to see you over any odds that may be stacked against you.”
"Of course you’ll win the whole thing - unless Lucina wins the whole thing. But, I’m sure you’ll be in the finals facing her. Who else boasts the tactics you do? Sure, some of them are strong, but strength will only go so far if they don’t have the smarts to back it up. And, it’s not like you have to worry about being out-powered because you’re facing goddesses because you’re one! … Well, sort of."
"The closest tactical genius I’ve seen might be that Olimar person. I think he could be some stiff competition with his army of… those things… uh… Pikimin! … Wait, I don’t think that’s right."
"Rumor has it there used to be another battling genius, but it seems he won’t be returning to the competition. It’s a shame, if you ask me. I bet you could have learned some cool things from him, then do him one better!"
"You sure have a lot of faith in me, Morgan. I don't want to disappoint you, so I'll have to work pretty hard. I can hardly compare to a goddess... especially the goddess of light. But... maybe she's vulnerable to magic. Who knows?
I've been studying my opponents, both old and new, and they all seem pretty impressive. Every time I think I know what to expect, they throw me a curve ball. I just hope I can get everything settled before it starts. The last thing I want to be is unprepared!"
"Mother! Mother! I heard the good news! You're going to be in some amazing tournament with Lucina, fighting against really powerful foes from across the Outrealms! I'm going to be cheering for you both! I know one of you will win the whole thing."
"Oh, I’d been meaning to tell you about that- looks like the grapevine reached you before I could. I’m a little apprehensive about the whole thing… do you really believe I could win the tournament? I have no doubt that Lucina could, but me? It’s a bit different than what I’m used to. And could you imagine if she and I faced each other?
…Perhaps I’m overthinking this a bit too much.“

He sighed as he looked over the board. It was, in fact, checkmate. He slumped forward on the table defeated. “I was so sure I had you that time. Guess I can’t beat the master.”
"You almost got me. One wrong move and I would've been finished. That was a very good game."
Robin was a little apprehensive, honestly--Morgan learned quickly; he was catching up to her in skill so fast she thought that she should be the one practicing her skills, not him. "If I'm not careful, you might replace me as tactician," she added with a laugh as she collected the chess pieces, placing them into their box.

"… Can I be in the harem of my twin… er, Outrealm version? … How does this work, anyway?"
"Of course you can be in my harem! ...Honestly I'm not sure how this works at all. But it's a thing!"
