On this episode we have the privilege of having April Bitner on the wife of Special Forces MSG Ben Bitner(pictured on the right) who was killed in combat, and a great friend of Mike's @sofsurvivor. Search Global Recon Podcast on ITunes, or click the link in my bio #RIPMSGBitner I remember standing in Bens kitchen, I was washing his baby boy in the tubbed sink. His wife was crying as she was trying to talk to friends, to stay strong, to keep herself together as her world was shattered apart. I looked outside and saw the subtleties to the house that Ben was working on, his range, goats, totally Ben. Tears fell from my face but I wiped them from my cheeks with my shoulder to stay strong for her. The night before an IED site was identified by a surveillance aircraft, yet the commander in charge refused to drop ordnance to kill the terrorist digging in Bens fate. The next morning as a Team Sgt Ben was ordered to assess the IED site, men who were in the operations center (my friends) told me there was tension because they knew he shouldn't have been out in this position. Ben being Ben, a leader, a hero, a respected assaulter and explosives breacher led from the front... He died leading his men in combat and paid the ultimate sacrifice so I can lay here on this bed and write this, free... with subtle problems that seem so minuscule when I think about the sacrifice he made. This life isn't about me anymore, it's not about fucking profit margins, popularity, the hype, it's about telling the world that great men like Ben lived and fought so you can be free.
