To help those whose jobs have been affected by COVID-19, the government has set aside $2bn in the latest Fortitude Budget to create jobs, traineeships, and skills training opportunities under the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package. Traineeships and reskilling are important, as they are key to helping us get jobs. No assistance schemes can replace having a job. The SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package includes opportunities for fresh graduates, mid-career jobseekers, and self-employed persons. The government will be giving out reusable masks to all residents ‪from 26 May to 14 June 2020‬.  All residents, including foreign domestic workers, migrant workers (MW* not living in dorms) and international students living in hostels, are eligible to collect a mask each.  Residents can collect from any RC Centres 10am to 6pm daily during the first week, ie till 1 June. Temasek Foundation has provided 24-hour mask vending machines placed at all CCs throughout the three weeks. All high-touch areas on the vending machines will be treated with self-disinfecting coating. The new improved mask, locally designed and manufactured, is available in adult and kid size. They have better filtration qualities and are more comfortable to wear. To avoid crowding, residents are encouraged to collect the masks on behalf of those who live with them. Just bring along their identification cards, birth certificates or any government-issued identification with a barcode. If you turn 21 this year, you are officially an adult. And congrats, all adult Singaporeans will receive the Solidarity Payment! 👏 The $600 Solidarity Payment is given to all Singaporeans aged 21 and above this year. So all SCs born in 1999 (regardless of month of birth) would qualify, as long as they are residing in Singapore (based on NRIC address) and are SCs before the start of the circuit breaker period. Those who have provided bank account details to the government should have already received your $600 last month. For those with no previous bank account record in government files, you will be getting your cheques over the next 1.5 weeks. So here’s a birthday red packet for you. 😀 PS. One more week before the deadline to apply for Temporary Relief Fund (TRF). While TRF was announced in March, some people’s income situation could have worsened more recently with the extended Circuit Breaker period and tightening of allowable essential services. TRF provides a one-off $500 financial aid for low- to middle- income SCs and PRs (age 16 yrs and above), who are facing difficulties due to job or income loss from the COVID-19 situation. The key eligibility criteria are: (i) gross monthly household income of ≤$10,000, or a gross monthly per capita income of ≤$3,100, prior to job/income loss; (ii) retrenchment or income reduction by at least 30% due to COVID-19 (after 23 Jan 2020); (iii) not already receiving assistance under ComCare You can apply for TRF by 30 April - online (link in my profile) - by visiting the nearest Social Service Office or Community Centres/Clubs. Parents living in HDB rental flats with children in primary and secondary schools can apply for the CDC Student Meals Scheme. It helps to defray the cost of buying meals while the students are on home-based learning during circuit breaker period.  Each eligible student can receive $55 worth of Grabfood e-vouchers (11 GrabFood vouchers in $5 denomination) valid up to 31 May 2020.
