It's not about the love that you get from a child. It's about the love that you give. Babies just know how to eat, sleep, poop, and look cute. They're completely dependent upon you for everything. You know, you gotta be ready to put them first and not expect anything in return.  Were you ready? When you had your son?  I thought I was. I thought I was putting Jacob first by working tirelessly day and night to provide, but... all he really needed from me was to... be present. Just to be there. But I didn't realize that until he got sick.
