He did apologize for it (in a satirical manner). His tweet from Thursday: “#CancelColbert – I agree! Just saw @ColbertReport tweet. I share your rage. Who is that though?” I'm Chinese, and I think it's ridiculous that people want his head for this.
But that was less of an apology and more of a dodge, basically saying "I wasn't the one who wrote it." Obviously I don't think that the Colbert Report should be cancelled because of this, but I think an actual apology is due.
