Saw a post on socials about an artist turning old telephone tables into tarot tarots so I picked up a cheap one locally from a vintage/antique seller and I’m trying my hand at refurbishing and painting it!

A Konkelbank, from West-Friesland, are little benches attached to the front of a house. On this, people could 'konkel' or gossip, they would keep an eye on the happenings of the neighborhood.

I think that hyper-specific themed furniture like gossip benches should make a comeback. Why pace around the house when you can sit and lean dreamily in a designated chatting chair? Of course, we are no longer tethered by chains of wired rotary phones anymore. I think the design of this is stunning - I love some good floral and contrast.

Okay so.... I cant stop doing projects yall!!! This bench only cost 10$ at my local thrift store. I had to refinish it so oops i have another gossip bench. Materials to fix was only 12$. So this beautiful thing only cost me 22$ BITCHES!!!!

Antique Telephone or Gossip Bench

  This is a nice little gossip bench, reminiscent of the old days when we all had “party lines”.  When we lived in Bryant Pond, my family had the old-fashioned crank (or “ringie-dingie”) phone, that was attached to the wall.  Mom would pick up the receiver and ask the operator to connect her to whomever she wanted to speak… often the operator would tell her that so and so had gone to “Loyston”…
