I’M BACKish

So..... It’s been a crazy few months.  

First, I want to apologize to my followers who may have missed me this season and at the tail end of last season.  My personal and work lives have been a bit busier than I could have anticipated, thus, my Gotham Live Blogs fell on the back burner and then just totally off my stove, so to speak.  I’m sorry for letting you guys down.

I will make the attempt to return to this with the upcoming return of the show mid season.  I MIGHT try to watch all the episodes from this season and do little blogs and reactions to those before the show returns.  

Secondly, my live blogs may not happen until the day after the episodes air if I am busy or occupied when they actually air on Fox.  If I can do them live, great, if not, I’ll do them within a reasonable amount of time after.  

Thirdly, OMG I MISS YOU GUYS!  I miss posting my occasional zingers.  I miss my sweet, sweet Harvey lovin’.  Hopefully I can jump back on the horse and make it to town.

RANT, PLEASE READ

Alright, listen up Gotham fandom.

I’d begin this rant by saying I’m the grandma of this fanbase, but I actually didn’t join ‘till after season one. Let’s just say I feel like the grandma.

Anyway, I’ve still been around long enough to know that people used to be chill and now they’re NOT.

We were once peaceful in all our love of chaos, but no longer. And honestly? Most of the drama came with nygmobblepot.

I’m certainly not attacking the ship. I love it as much as the next guy. But it’s causing a few stirs:

#1 PEOPLE SAY THAT IT’S QUEERBAITING

I disagree with this, and here’s why:

Queer baiting is when a TV show uses a gay/lesbian couple explicitly for attention.

Gotham DID NOT do that.

What Gotham DID, was they took two characters who already had a bond, and developed a complicated, interesting ALMOST-relationship between them. It did not just come out of the blue to just lure people in. It was beautifully woven into the storyline. And it didn’t even focus on the FACT that Oswald was gay. It was basically treated like any other relationship on the show - on and off.

The fact that, in the end, it didn’t work out was (as cory said) just because one of them WASN’T. Gay.

It’s LIFE, PEOPLE. So of course you don’t have to be happy about their writing choices, but HARASSING THE ACTORS FOR SOMETHING THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE CONTROL OVER IS NOT OKAY.

ARE WE CLEAR? ALRIGHT.

#2 PEOPLE ARE TAKING SIDES NOW

Now that nygmobblepot is a sunken ship, people keep taking sides.

“Edward is a snake who needs to stop hurting baby Ozzy!!”

“Oswald KILLED Isabella, he’s the villain!!!1!”

First of all, they’re both villains. When it all comes down to it, they’re just really viscous people.

Second of all, I get picking a character you prefer, or one you connect with more, but don’t just blatantly hate on the other one, please. It’s unnecessary drama we don’t need.

It pains me to see this fandom fall into chaos just like all the others. And I know it’s inevitable, but if I have any influence at all, I’ll use it to slow people the heck down.

This is one last plea to PLEASE keep hate to yourself and let everyone bask in the sheer glory that is Gotham. Thank you.

GOTHAM LIVE BLOG

Thought I would put my usual PSA out today since I forgot to do it when we returned last week.  Alright, so...

Hi, I’m Buster.  I live blog episodes of Gotham.  Nice to meet you.  If you’re new to following, or you just need a refresher as to what I’m about, well this is the post for you!  Yes, you!   

I tag all my live blog posts with “Gotham,” “Gotham Spoilers,” and usually the names of the characters in the scene that I am referencing.  Being that I’m such a big Harvey Bullock fan, I tend to take the the most interest in him, of course, but I blog about ALL OF ‘EM!  The goal for this is really to achieve my own amusement with hopes that a few of you might giggle, too.

Also, I am in search of a few Gothamites.  I am beginning to toy with the idea of doing a live stream a day or two after episodes via twitch, or just recording and posting to youtube, or recording a weekly podcast sort of deal.  If anyone has any ideas, wants to be involved, or just has questions, comments, or concerns about such a project, please get a hold of me via the IM system here on tumblr, or ask for my contact info and we’ll stay in touch with whatever media/service is best for you.
