"I guess the timing of this worked out swell, with it being your birthday and all." Steve removed the frame from the canvas bag and propped it up on the table for John to see. The intricately detailed charcoal visages of Olivia, Lemar, and John stood out on the heavy paper protected behind the glass pane. "They lent me some old photos to help me out. I couldn't have completed this without them."
John stares at it in awe. He couldn't believe it. It was so beautiful, so intricate, it felt like they could walk off the pages themselves and be real. He knew that Steve could draw but he hadn't expected this, especially not for his birthday, a day that he didn't even celebrate much anyways. But this gift, how could he deny it. "This is...this is really beautiful...wow." He feels a swell of emotions in him, like he could cry on the spot. He's a little teary-eyed when he turns to look at Steve, "Thank you, really. This means...this means so much." He hugs the other, a little tighter than usual but he's unsure of how else to express his feelings of love and happiness on a day that usually was melancholy at best.
