Location: Dorne, Sunspear Open starter (2/3)
“Excellent,” the man said, his voice serious, though an undeniable gleam of pride shone in his eyes. His opponent’s blade had just landed by his neck, the sharpness but a hair away from his skin, exactly as Ren had been instructing. They had already gone over a proper and steady stance, the movement of the sword above the head, and the precise diagonal cut. The viper-swift attack was a simple but effective move that the military of Rongyao often used to stop an opponent without killing. A warning. The kill only happened in dire circumstances, or if the enemy attempted any sudden moves, for the position of the blade by the artery could easily end a person’s life.
Ren stepped back and raised his blade before him, the second sword he often used still sheathed at his back. “Well done,” he praised his student, a younger Vale soldier who had inherent skill but was still on the path of polishing his technique. It was easy enough to pass his knowledge of the sword as something he’d merely learned throughout his journeys and the jobs he’d picked along the way, not a way of life he’d had in the military of his homeland both as student and teacher. “Get some rest, you’ve earned it,” The YiTish gave a respectful nod and the two men loosened their soldier stances.
It wasn’t unusual to have some eyes on those that filled the training grounds of Sunspear, people from all realms gathering to practice, and onlookers finding it a sort of spectacle. Ren took notice of a particular person paying special attention to him and the young soldier he’d just dismissed. He gave a polite, acknowledging nod in response.
