Last night’s focused tasting at #graileys featured Riesling and Chateauneuf du Pape. The Rieslings on the undercard were spectacular and totally stole the thunder from the CDP that was supposed to be the main event! The 1999 Rudi Pichler Terrassen Smaragd from #wachau was drinking perfectly - bone dry with lots of minerality, lemon and pear on the palate and intriguing floral aromatics. Not to be outdone, the 2006 Trimbach Cuvée Frederic Emile from #alsace, also bone dry, attacked the palate with a complex combination of exotic fruit and citrus rind and was balanced perfectly with abundant acidity and a long finish. But the wine of the night (including the CDP), was the 1988 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese from the #Mosel With 30 years of age, the residual sugar has receded and this wine has morphed into a complex nectar featuring aromatics of citrus rind, honey and petrol. The acidity perfectly offset the sweetness and resulted in a long, complex finish that lingered for more than a minute. A spectacular wine! Also pictured is the 2002 Piper Heidsieck Rare, which is one of my go-to champagnes and much more than just a fancy bottle. #jjprum #trimbach #rudipichler #germanriesling #riesling #rieslinglover #wine #winetasting #winelover #winelovers #sommlife #piperheidsieck #piperheidsieckchampagne #champagne https://www.instagram.com/p/BpKBtyVnOcq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1s1tktkl37ksz
