Dancers and Farmers | [a crossover fic]
Fandom: Glee AND Skins (Gen 3)
Ship(s): Kum AND Gralo (aka: Grace and Alo aka: you should be jealous that Betsy and I coined this name and the entire Gralo Giraffe fandom)
Synopsis: Alo Creevey and his friend Sam Evans are a lot of things...including the fact that they've both somehow managed to fall in love with their best friends.
Okay so this was written for Betsy as a (belated) birthday present. We have been speaking incessantly of the pairing of Grace and Alo for a while now, and so I finally (finally!) am writing this AU in which the Glee world and the Skins world have combined! Somewhat. Kinda. I have no idea where they live but just go with it.

"The thing is, Sammy boy, I just don't think that she even knows I exist."
Sam Evans peered over at Alo Creevey from where he was crouched along one of the large back tires of Alo's father's tractor. They'd been working out in the fields for a good three hours now, and the tractor was taking its much needed break (and so was its driver). "Alo, dude, Grace totally knows you exist. You're like, one of her best friends."
"But she's such a dancer," Alo sighed over dramatically, all but draping his lanky frame against the tractor. "She's a dancer that deserves better than a farmer."
"Didn't she, like, almost marry Rich or whatever?" Sam asked as he stood back from the tractor and leaned against the wall of the barn they were standing in.
"But they broke up," Alo clarified. "Too many diff..." he drifted off and sighed even louder, his eyes widening. "Oh bloody hell, if they have too many differences, then I don't have a fuck's chance in hell at getting with Grace."
Sam rolled his eyes back at him and sighed. "She works at that dance studio, right?" he confirmed, looking over at Alo and raising his eyebrows in question.
"With your mate, Kurt," Alo replied with a tilt to the head. Before Sam could get a word out edgewise, Alo was practically trampling across the barn to get to him. He nudged Sam back until the blond was practically pinned against the wall and Alo was staring down at him with wide eyes (of course, given the fact that Alo's eyes were always wide, this shouldn't have been perceived as all that alarming to Sam, but oh...it was). "Say, maybe you could help me out!"
Sam blinked back at him confusingly, laughing slightly with a tilt of the head as Alo took a large step back and gave Sam some breathing room. "Help you with what?" he asked.
"Well, see, you could go to the dance studio to pick up Kurt, and then Grace could just so happen to be there and...come on, you know how the rest of the song goes!"
With a sigh of defeat (because Sam knew that Alo probably wasn't about to let this go), he nodded reluctantly. "I have to pick Kurt up in, like, twenty minutes anyway," he said before nodding his head toward the main gravel driveway outside of Alo's farmhouse, where Sam's truck sat parked.
"And hey, if you're going to help me with Grace, I can help you with Kur-"
"I don't need help with Kurt, Alo," Sam told him with a weak smile and a shrug as they climbed into the truck. He turned the ignition and sighed. "Kurt's my best friend, that's all he is. I've accepted it."
Alo had a smug smile on his face as he sat back in the passenger seat and shook his head back and forth like a kid trying with all his might to keep in a secret. "And by that you mean that you haven't accepted it at all?"
With a slight groan, Sam backed out of the driveway and headed down the country road that led back into the city. "Yeah. Pretty much."
-------------
"Are you still convinced that he's straight?"
Kurt Hummel's glasz eyes flickered until they landed on the delicate frame of one Grace Violet Blood. She was was pulling her dark hair out of its bun and sending him that knowing look that she used so often.
Kurt arched his back to stretch before taking a sip out of his bottle of water and shaking his head back at her. "Grace, we have been over this so many times that I think the conversation has been blurred down to a moot point," Kurt explained. "Sam is my best friend, that's all."
Grace made a slight humming sound as she fell into step with him, bumping her shoulder against the brunet's. "Hm," she mused. "I wish my best friend looked at me the way that Sam looked at you."
Kurt looked back at her and arched an eyebrow. "You'd like Mini and Franky to look at you the way that Sam looks at me?" he clarified with an amused smile.
Her smile faltered slightly. "Well, no, of course not," she said quickly. "Those looks are reserved just for each other," she said. Clearing her throat, she gave a slight sigh. "I was referring to Alo."
Kurt looked back at her as if he was certain that he hadn't heard her right. The two of them pushed out of the double doors to the performing arts center and headed down the stairs. "I'm sorry, did you just say Alo? As in Alo Creevey? As in, wears-overalls-and-mismatched-plaid Alo Creevey?"
"Kurt Hummel, you be nice," Grace mock scolded him, swatting at his arm with her wrist. "I'm allowed to crush on Alo Creevey all I want and you're not allowed to judge me."
"I don't judge," Kurt corrected her, placing a hand over his heart. "I merely inspect and commentate."
"Mmhm," she mused back at him, rolling her dark eyes. She scanned her eyes across the parking lot and sighed. "My father is supposed to pick me up in a few minutes," she said with a sigh. She turned to look at him as she leaned back against the railing on the stairwell. "Is your peroxided Prince Charming coming to pick you up on his noble steed?" she teased.
"Or his pick-up truck," Kurt replied with a dazed sigh, nodding his head forward as he saw Sam's familiar truck making its way toward the parking lot.
Grace looked at the car, her eyes settling on the passengers before widening lightly. "Alo's with him," she breathed out with a wide smile before pushing away from the rail and skipping down the stairs. She stopped at the window and popped her head in. "Hello, Mr. Creevey."
Kurt couldn't help but notice the wide and goofy smiled that curved onto the ginger-haired boy's lips as he grinned back at her stupidly. "Hello, Miss Blood."
The brunet watched the two for a few moments before letting out a slight hum of content and moving over to Sam's side of the vehicle. "Well, isn't it just a huge coincidence that Alo is here tagging along with you?" he said with a laugh.
Sam's eyes registered onto his best friend and he shook his head slowly, tilting it to the side with a coy smile playing at his lips. "Not even," he replied. He took one more look over his shoulder at Grace and Alo. Grace was fluttering her hands and animatedly speaking as she tried to keep the blush off her cheeks and Alo was staring down at his lap only to have his eyes constantly brought back up to her.
With a slight upturn of the mouth, Sam slid out of the truck and leaned up against the door after he closed it. "Y'know," he trailed off, "Grace and Alo have been best friends since, like, forever," he said.
Kurt nodded along with Sam's words, his own eyes momentarily fluttering over to the pair on the other side of the vehicle before finding themselves back onto Sam. His eyes always found themselves on Sam. "Best friends," he echoed.
"And they're obviously into each other," Sam carried on. Kurt couldn't help but smile as he saw that familiar cupid's bow of a grin quirking onto his best friend's lips. He nodded once more and Sam continued. "But they're not worried about any of it ruining their friendship."
Kurt sighed, his head tilting back slightly as he realized that he knew exactly where Sam was going with all of his words. The two of them had been best friends almost as long as Grace and Alo had. They did everything together. And for the past few months (and by 'past few months' he really meant past year and a half), Kurt had known that something else was happening between them. But he didn't dare act on it because he did have the insecurity that Grace and Alo so evidently lacked - he didn't want anything to ruin his friendship with Sam.
And aside from that, he didn't know where Sam stood. He knew that he had a very good idea, but he wasn't certain. He could never be certain if Sam felt the same way about him as Kurt did, but he always made himself think realistically, telling himself time and time again that the feelings weren't mutual.
"Well," Kurt sighed with a shrug, "they're best friends." He looked back over at Grace and Alo and smile softly. Alo was now standing outside of the truck as well. He was telling Grace some elaborate story with wild hand gestures, and Grace was nodding along and grinning as if she'd never heard a more amusing and entertaining story in her entire life. Kurt's gaze flickered back to Sam. "Maybe they don't have anything to worry about."
Sam had his lower, pouty lip gnawed between his teeth as he looked back at Kurt and took a step closer to him. "Then maybe we don't have anything to worry about either," he said quietly.
Kurt wanted to ask Sam what he meant, but then Sam was leaning down and kissing him, and Kurt forgot how to ask questions entirely.
