11.20.14 - Chicago, Illinois - Since the spring I have been working on a piece about some of the work that artist Theaster Gates' Rebuild Foundation does in Grand Crossing. What drew me in initially was the Dorchester Artist + Housing Collaborative project he was finishing up with the Chicago Housing Authority. Over time I was amazed at the commitment he and his organization have shown in rebuilding that community. It's a slow process, but you could see change even over the six months I was going down there. Hopefully Chicago can find a few more Theasters that together can bring positive change to struggling communities.
