Granny reader fic?......... oh yeah I deffinetly like the sound of that. Just nice, cozy old lady taking care of the boys. And the boys feeling so loved that they'll do whatever they can to make her happy in turn. But the thing she wants most is just the boys feeling happy and accepted.

I do want to poke at the idea, I think. Once I finish with this ‘short’ heat fic. I like to have something light and easy that I can play around with on my phone. (My long fics—Compound Fracture, Atypical, Life Cycles—are not phone fics, fyi. Those I pretty much need a computer or notebook for. Everything else is pretty much a phone fic.)

I’m not sure I could write it as a Reader-insert, though. I personally don’t mind when the Reader has a prominent personality, but from what I understand, the idea of a Reader fic is for the Reader to be able to treat the POV character as a self insert. While I wasn’t looking, my little old lady grew a personality (and a wife?) so I’m not wholly sure it would suit a Reader-style fic. Third person is what I’m most comfortable with anyway, honestly. I don’t know—if anyone out there has advice, I wouldn’t mind hearing it. Reader fics have never really been my thing, and I’ve only ever found “unconventional” reader fics to be especially enjoyable.

...the idea—and the character—persists, though, so I’m probably gonna take a crack at it at some point. Besides, given the high stress of our current age, I wouldn’t mind something soft and fluffy.

Do you have a rough description of the granny? I'd like to hear more about her! For the past two years or so I've had a story with an old lady getting to be housemates with the uf skelebros nibbling at the back of my mind, but I never got around to writing it since writing itself is a struggle, to say the least. I'm glad to see that other people find similar ideas appealing, and would love to read yours if you ever write it!!!

Thank you! I’m surprised this very niche idea is so popular, but there’s something really appealing about it, isn’t there? Writing is hard, but let me know if you ever write yours out—I would definitely want to take a look.

I actually do have a lot of (tentative) ideas about her and her wife. No names, for whatever reason....

Granny is in her early 70s. Still spry, but her hair has gone grey and she keeps it tied back in a long braid. She prefers to wear dresses/skirts, but she always wears tennis shoes with them. She has plenty of laugh lines, and she’s not ashamed of them, but she insists she’s never fully dressed without at least her lipstick. She was a housewife when she was younger, before she met her now-wife. (Granny has done some things she wishes she’d handled better at the time, but nothing she regrets.) She’s on the shorter side of average and plump. She works with her hands a lot—gardening, baking, cooking, sewing. She’s a quintessential grandma, and she usually shows her love with baked goods.

Her wife is 12 years younger. (They have an old, private joke about that age difference.) She’s a recently retired war mage, and it shows. She still carries herself tall and straight, and her bone structure is strong and thick, though age has softened her physically. She has tattoos, though I’m not wholly sure where; I just know she has a lot of them, and they’re all faded at this point. (Some of them are probably very bad. I think she acted out a lot when she was young and dumb.) She’s still active and strong, but she walks with a cane now—she has an old injury that never fully healed. She has fewer laugh lines, more lines between her brows from frowning. She’s taller, maybe 5’9”, but not outrageously so. Her dark hair is threaded with grey, and she still keeps it military-short.

They don’t have kids together, but Granny has kids from her previous marriage. There’s some tension there, but no one is completely cut off.

I honestly just really love them and want them to be happy with each other in their old age.

Even in my fluffy fics, you know I’m gonna throw a little bit of conflict in. Our Granny is definitely taking care of the boys. Her wife might not be quite as warm....

This would never have happened if nfbagelperson  and spartanguard weren't so much fun. nfbagelperson used the tag 'Captain Crossbow' and I was done....

It broke her heart to see the pirate such a wreck. For all her rough exterior, she had developed a soft spot for the handsome scoundrel. He had been an excellent guest, quiet and tidy, and to be honest, she quite enjoyed him lurking around the place. She was only human. Ish.  

 As she placed the rum down in front of him, she squeezed his sagging shoulder.  

 "You'll find her, Captain. You both deserve your happy ending."  

He met her eyes, and saw the conviction of her words. The faith in him.  

 The rum went down in one swallow. 

"Aye." 

I seem to have a thing for Granny related drabbles! Could be worse, I guess.
