One of my favorite ranchers closed his farm, but I think I’ve found a meat service that I like even better. One family owns both the land nd the butcher shop, so they share expenses and keep costs lower. I’ve been getting their bacon and shoulder roasts, and today I just picked up a half hog. I paid $3.85/lb for 95 pounds of meat, including the butcher fees.
And it’s well raised pork, too. Pastured, and since pigs nearly always need supplementary feed, it’s all fresh vegetable scraps from neighboring farms. The only grain they get is freshly grown corn during the summer when it’s in season.
And they even deliver it to my regular farmers market, so I don’t have to drive out of my way. I’m positively thrilled with how easy and affordable they are. I think I may switch my beef share purchases over to them, as well.

Grass-Fed Beef is the Best Choice for Your Health and the Environment
Choosing grass-fed beef is a conscious decision that not only benefits your health but also contributes to a healthier environment. This superior choice of meat offers a range of advantages that make it stand out in terms of nutrition and sustainability.
1. Nutrient-Rich Composition: Grass-fed beef is inherently leaner and richer in essential nutrients compared to conventionally raised beef. It contains higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins such as A and E. Consuming grass-fed beef can contribute to improved heart health, enhanced immunity, and overall well-being.
2. Balanced Omega-3 to Omega-6 Ratio: Grass-fed beef offers a more balanced ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. This balance is crucial for reducing inflammation and supporting various aspects of cardiovascular health. Choosing grass-fed beef aligns with dietary recommendations for a healthier fat profile.
3. Environmentally Friendly Practices: Opting for grass-fed beef supports sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. Cattle raised on pasture contribute to biodiversity, promote healthier soil, and reduce the ecological impact associated with conventional feedlot operations. This eco-conscious choice aligns with efforts to protect our planet.
4. Reduced Carbon Footprint: Grass-fed beef generally has a lower carbon footprint compared to conventionally raised beef. The sustainable practices involved in grass-fed farming contribute to a more environmentally friendly grass fed meat production system, helping mitigate the environmental impact associated with large-scale industrial farming.
Conclusion
Making the switch to grass-fed beef not only enhances the nutritional content of your diet but also reflects a commitment to a more sustainable and ethical food system. This conscientious choice supports your well-being while contributing to a healthier planet for future generations.

Sustainable Dining: The Environmental Impact of Choosing Grass-Fed Beef
In the realm of sustainable dining, the choice to embrace grass-fed beef extends beyond the plate, influencing not only individual health but also the health of the planet. The environmental impact of choosing grass-fed beef is profound, making it a conscious option for those seeking a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach to their culinary choices.
Unlike conventional feedlot operations, where cattle are often confined to crowded spaces and fed grain-based diets, grass-fed beef production revolves around open pastures and a natural diet of grass. This approach significantly reduces the environmental footprint associated with beef production.
The practice of rotational grazing, common in grass-fed farming, promotes soil health and reduces erosion. This environmentally friendly approach ensures that the land used for grazing remains resilient and sustainable over time. Additionally, the integration of grass-fed cattle into sustainable farming systems contributes to overall biodiversity, creating a healthier ecosystem.
Choosing grass-fed me aligns with the principles of ethical and responsible farming. The reduction of synthetic inputs, such as fertilizers and pesticides, further minimizes the environmental impact associated with traditional farming methods. Grass-fed farming practices also tend to be more water-efficient, addressing concerns related to water scarcity.
In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, grass-fed meat generally has a lower carbon footprint compared to conventionally raised beef. The cattle's natural diet and the sustainable land management practices contribute to a more balanced and eco-friendly production system.
Conclusion
By opting for grass-fed beef, consumers actively participate in a more sustainable food system. This choice goes beyond personal health benefits, extending to a broader commitment to environmental conservation. Sustainable dining, with grass-fed beef at its forefront, is a conscientious step towards fostering a healthier planet for current and future generations.
