The A.S.B. of Under Grove High School and Their Desks: The President

The sun was fading along the tree line set against the large campus of Under Grove High School. On the field footballers were walking towards the lockers with their pads under their arms. Cross country runners with broken strides jogged their way through the parking lot staring at the gates that marked their finish line. Inside when most of the school was empty, except the eight students who sat in the classroom with a view of the shadowy courtyard. 

The eight students were the Associated Student Body of Under Grove High School. They sat with their desks pressed together forming a long table. Each desks placement marked each students rank and seniority. One desk was placed perpendicular to the rest. Its owner sat, their back to a chalk board filled with particulars of the days meeting. This desk was the president Grave Desmond’s desk. Grave’s desk was twice the width of the other desks to accommodate its placement. The President’s desk was older than the rest and had no internal storage; instead all the storage sat on top. There were pencils, pens, various bins, and a single placard that read A.S.B. President. The top was scribbled and etched with messages from past Presidents. While the desk had an air of veneration, the messiness reflected the more lighthearted personality of Grave. Almost every student currently at the school and many who had already graduated had a positive opinion of Grave. The duality of his personality created a coolness that was undeniable. The respected volleyball champion, the goofball student. Like his desk, the space he took up in a room was undeniable. Closest to the President’s desk, two desks sat pushed face to face. They belonged to the A.S.B. Vice President, who sat to the President’s right, and the A.S.B. Secretary, who sat to the left.
