Glitter Wars and Secret Smiles
The Mystery Shack’s attic is a rainbow-colored wonderland, strewn with crafts, stuffed animals, and an EXPLOSION of glitter. Mabel sits on the floor, hot glue gun in hand as she works on her latest art project—a glittery crown fit for royalty. The reader, dressed in a matching llama sweater, is right beside her, carefully sticking sparkly stars onto a small paper sword.
“Look at you! My little knight in sparkly armor!” Mabel grins, pressing a handful of stickers onto the reader’s cheek. “Now we just need to find a dragon to slay.”
The reader giggles, waving their paper sword. “I’m brave!”
Mabel’s smile falters for just a second, thinking of the real dangers that lurk outside their safe little bubble. But she quickly shakes it off, determined to keep things light. “You’re the bravest! Braver than Dipper when he sees a spider, that’s for sure.”
The reader’s eyes widen. “Dip scared?”
Mabel leans in, whispering as if sharing the world’s greatest secret. “Yep. But don’t tell him that I told you—he likes to pretend he’s a big tough guy.”
They continue crafting. Mabel watches her little sibling, filled with a fierce protectiveness. If she can keep things sparkly and fun, they’ll never have to know about the monsters. And that’s good enough for her.
