The last couple days were really great, I can't deny. Loooong good things ramble under the cut, and a special delight for King's Quest fans in there.
The quest thing is at the very bottom if you just wanna scroll. I probably need to make a separate post but it's pART OF MY GOOD THINGS TODAY.
I didn't sleep in on Wednesday, because I had to finish my book club book, and I was worried about getting it done before I had to leave for work at 11. No fear, it went so fast. The last couple chapters of Thick as Thieves by Turner, and when I finished it, I just put the book down and sighed with joy. So, so good.
I spent the afternoon prepping for my double book clubs: the lego one went Amazingly well. Last month was a nightmare, but we were in a different much smaller room, which forced the kids to be more contained and there was minimal lego throwing and No cartwheels! Amazing! Followed up by my favorite young adult book club where we talked about my favorite Queen's Thief series. Time just flew by, it was wonderful.
Then, we went to a friend's house (it's like 9pm at this point, but oh well) to play Mario Party, which was just a cherry on the day. We had fried chicken, ate yummy dessert, I lost pretty badly, it was a blast.
Then, today, I finally got to send in my gerbil that I've been over the moon excited for Mickey to see, for her doppleganger arc, and the response was Just Perfect.
Followed by a baby storytime that was SO CROWDED I didn't check my numbers but there had to be at least 80 people in that room. Don't tell the fire marshal. One lady didn't have a kid, she saw me with my fox puppet greeting babies, asked if she could sit in or if that would be weird, I invited her in. I saw her by the door while we did our thing--she was clapping and singing with us once she learned the songs I taught. After, she was over the moon about it, she just loved it. I'd felt pretty good about that one, I carried it really well despite how crowded it was, but she GUSHED over it, said I need my own PBS show and everything, which was adorable. And then she found my supervisor and told HIM all that too??!!?! WHAT?! So now that's officially documented and I was over the moon.
After that the day was just super chill, with me getting my upcoming phone interview scheduled, and then I came home and wanted to mess around with this unreal engine 3 texture replacer mod I'd found a few days ago but hadn't had the chance to mess with yet.
And oh. Oh oh oh oh oh. I did something I've always wanted to do. Somehow, somehow, I cracked into King's Quest, and, yes, this is a simple texture swap, something people do all the time, but it took me so many nervous steps, so much youtube checking, so much nervous fingernail biting, and then I loaded in the game and I just YELLED. I CLAPPED SO HARD THE CAT RAN.
I got the dirty texture to load into the player character!! Something the discord has dreamed of doing for years, because the texture existed in the files, and we knew it would have made all the world for atmosphere building, but TOG chose not to use it, ultimately. And, well, I can see why, now it's moving instead of just stationary in blender: he looks like he was crammed into a blender, hahaha. Like a goblin ran over him with a lawn mower. When it's moving, it's so rough, and it adds SO MUCH atmosphere to the already gloomy chapter and I DID THAT. My hands are still shaking, a bit, that was the coolest thing.
seriously he fell into a wood chipper, I swear, but the quest fandom has ALWAYS wanted this, and I figured out how!!!!!!
Now if only I could figure out that freecam.......
A few days ago, I got more mail from the college I applied to, and I was accepted!!! I’m so happy and proud of myself. I quit my job in May so I could further the paths I desired, and while I do miss work, I’m so glad I’ve made it this far! I just applied for general studies for now, and I’ll see where that takes me! September will be the first time in 3 and a half years that I’ll be attending schooling, and I’m confident that I will be a much better student than I was when I was in junior and high school (not to say I didn’t try back then, I really did, in light of my own circumstances) and now I have the chance to recieve the aid I need for certain aspects, given my illnesses.
Driving was also another thing I strived to focus on, and it's going great! I have much less anxiety regarding driving than I did before I started.
