hey! I sent you another message where I actually ask you the question but you didn't get it so here it is: i want to read more queer 5sos fanfiction but I can't find anything I like that much, besides you and merlypops (another ao3 author), I haven't found any fanfiction writers that I like. Dd you have any to recommend?

Sorry! I totally have not been ignoring this ask! I’m out of town visiting my parents, who live in the middle of nowhere, USA and have truly horrifying Internet service. :/

A while ago, I constructed this list of fic recs, all of which are now completed - any author on that list might as well be included in this one, too. (A couple is on this list, too, but that’s because I wanted to highlight different stories.) 

I read just about anything that is posted to the 5SOS page on ao3 to be honest. My only criteria is that it is slash (i.e. queer) and that it is written well or, at the very least, captivating. I don’t read by particular authors, though there are some that I either accidentally or purposefully read everything that they write. 

The following isn’t an all-inclusive list. I am sure that I am forgetting several wonderful authors that I read regularly, and I apologize for that. I’m not sure that I am going to be adding any authors that you don’t already know about, but here are a few that come to mind and my personal favorite fics…

[Most fics on this list include smut to some degree, but, unless I’ve stated otherwise, the story is still worth reading even if you skip over the smut.]

Migs:

In particular, I am quite fond of the Cocoon series. It is quite possibly my favorite ABO series, and I love the whole dynamic of Michael/Calum/Luke. 

Also, I admire Migs’s comfort level with explicit smut writing - a level I doubt I personally will ever reach. If you’re in the mood for smut, pretty much anything here is a go. Fast Car is a good example.

While I don’t think I’ve read everything by this author, I absolutely loved Le Chetelier’s Principle - another ABO with lashton main pairing and side malum. 

I enjoyed the Nanny AU once I finally psyched myself up to read it. I’m a little burnt out on kid fics, because, at one point in a different fandom, they were all that I read. I eyed this a while before I read it due to that very reason, and I am disappointed that it took me so long. It’s lashton with a side pairing of malum.

Comment, Like, Subscribe My Heart was probably one of the first in-progress fanfictions I read in the 5SOS fandom, though it is, of course, now long completed. It is a great and relatively lengthy (is 50k lengthy?) Youtube!AU with the pairing of muke where Luke is a famous Youtuber and Michael, along with Ashton, is trying to make it in the music business. 

Obviously: You Are The Moon Who Breaks The Night. I’m not big on werewolf AUs - I never really got into the werewolf genre, to be honest - but some fics are too epic to at least not check out. This was certainly one of them, especially since I had already enjoyed the previously mentioned story. While the main pairing is cashton - and I loved cashton - the muke side story was, hands-down, my favorite part of the story. I read the story for muke, mainly for Luke’s heartbreaking past.

I recommended Lay Me Down (cake) the last time I did a fic rec post, but the sequel Everything Has Changed (mashton) is worthy of recognition, too - especially since I initially read the first story for the mashton side story. 

The Bali series is a series of muke oneshots that begins with the 5SOS vacation in Bali around the first of this year and explores their relationship moving forward. It isn’t yet complete, but the updates are fairly regular.

The world war series broke my heart in the best possible manner. The first piece is a relatively short oneshot historical fiction set at Christmas 1914 during WWI where Luke and Ashton meet on opposite sides of the trenches. The second piece is a much longer oneshot set twenty years later during the London air raids of WWII where Luke shows up on Ashton’s doorstep seeking safety.

Another fic which broke my heart for a totally different reason is inconsolable. In it, Michael and Ashton begin as friends with benefits until Michael gets in a relationship and breaks things off with Ashton, who realizes too late that he is in love with Michael. Trigger warning for abuse/domestic violence. 

I know there are several more that I haven’t mentioned, and maybe I’ll do a part two or something, but this is the best I can do with my Internet access at the moment. I considered waiting until I got back home to do this list; however, that will be at least another week, if not two. I figured a few was better than none at all. :)
