I don't know where you're going,
But do you got room for one more troubled soul
I don't know where I'm going, but I don't think I'm coming home
And I said, I'll check in tomorrow if I don't wake up dead
This is the road to ruin and we're starting at the end. (x)

Cahya buffed as he passed both his hands on his face, his whole body hurt and he was tired, and he wanted to go sleep so bad, yet he couldn’t bring himself to get any sleep. He had a lot to do, he didn’t really had time to rest.
A gentle touch on his forehead made him relax just a little. A tender touch that it always set him at ease. The smell of a hot drink made a small smile rose to his lips and he lowered his hands to see his boyfriend’s face already up close.
“Shouldn’t you be sleeping, old man?” His voice sounded as tired as he expected.
“You should too.” Gregory’s voice was a kind smile and he set down a mug of hot chocolate besides Cahya’s work on the desk. “How is it going?”
“Yeah…” Cahya looked down at his work. “… I’m doing what I can.”
“And that is amazing.” Gregory leaned to place a chaste kiss on Cahya’s lips. “You can do your best and it will be fine.”
Cahya smiled and leaned up on another kiss, eager to have the touch on Gregory’s lips just a little more. When they backed away Gregory giggled shyly with his cheeks in a shade of red.
“Say, Honey…” Gregory spoke up a little more embarrassed than normal. “Can I- get a few minutes from you?”
“Hm? Of course, what’s up old man?” Cahya tilted his head slightly in curiosity. “Do you want something more~?”
“Ah—No- No it’s not that-“ Gregory’s cheeks got more hot, which got a smirk from Cahya. “I mean—I don’t- not want that, but—It’s not what I wanted to talk about…”
Gregory lifted his index finger as if quietly asking Cahya to wait a little and went outside the room, coming back a few moments afterwards. He had a very tiny box wrapped in a neat gift wrapper.
“I- know that… you don’t really- celebrate.” Gregory fiddled with the small box gently and nervously, his whole body was screaming anxiety. “But- Well… I just-… wanted to give you a little gift.”
Cahya frowned a little, trying to understand, and it took a second for it to hit him. His eyes moved to the calendar on his phone hitting the 25 and he let out a small sound of understanding.
“Come on, you didn’t had to old man.” Cahya smiled a little more softly and he took the gift that Gregory offered him.
“I just- wanted to get you something nice.” His voice was as happy as he looked and Cahya didn’t missed the anxious look underneath the glasses.
The blue haired man unwrapped the small box, revealing a small black box. He opened it carefully and his eyes shined at what he saw. His hand carefully picked up the small chain bracelet, it was obviously made out of pure silver.
“Love…” He muttered without really planning to, inspecting the piece of jewelry almost as if it was too expensive for him to wear it.
“I’m- not sure if you like that…” Gregory added very nervously, scratching his own arm. “But-… Well, I saw it on the store and… I thought… it would fit you.”
The delicate chain bracelet was as gentle and as gorgeous at the same time. A small plate connected to parts of the chains and on the back of it, the engraving of ’G & C’ was so subtle that it really was a gift that Gregory would pick.
“I love it.” Cahya smiled back up to his boyfriend, a genuine and lovestruck smile. “I—I didn’t got anything for you, though…” He looked around his messy desk with a worried frown, but Gregory cupped his face with both his hands and made him look back up at him.
“You are the best gift I could ever get.” Gregory said with red cheeks and a shy smile as he leaned in for another long and tender kiss.
After they parted away, Gregory leaned his forehead on his boyfriend’s, Cahya had a smile that was wide and happy at the act, while Gregory has a sweet and embarrassed one.
“Happy holidays, Cahya.” His voice was as embarrassed as he looked like, and honestly, that was adorable.
Gregory could feel his heart slamming inside his chest as he held tight to the toy gun on his hiding spot. He wasn't sure if he regretted telling Cahya about his dream of playing laser tag or not, but so far it had only been slightly frustrating.
It was fun yeah, but so far he only have lost against Cahya.
Cahya was faster than him, and he seem like he already knew the area fairly well, and that wasn't very fair. Plus it was very dark, and Gregory was afraid of tripping and getting his leg hurt again. Maybe Cahya forgot about his little issue? Or he wasn't really planning to give him a handicap for that.
Again, Gregory wasn't sure if he was thankful for that or not.
"You can hide but you can't ruun!!" Cahya spoke up with a big grin on his face. Gregory tensed up a little and looked around to try to see where he was.
"That's not how the saying goes, Cahya." Gregory spoke up with a small voice, a bit afraid. He had to come up with a plan if he wanted to win at least once...
"Oh... so that's what's wrong with it." Cahya laughed a little from where he was, holding the gun ready to hit Gregory one more time. "Come on, if you keep hiding it won't be fun!"
Gregory pressed his lips as a plan got around his head. He would only have one chance. He stood up and tested his leg before going off his hiding spot to get visible to his boyfriend.
"There you are!" Cahya turned around fast and shot, but it didn't sounded any buzzer so he missed. "Come back here!!" He ran after Gregory with a big smile on his face.
It was actually nice to see Gregory playing around like a normal kid. He is always a stuck up on books, and he more than half of the times skip P.E., so seeing him actually doing some physical activity was... fun.
Cahya turned around and met up with a dead end. He blinked in surprise, maybe he lost Gregory. He was small so he could very well just sneak trough some corners.
As he turned around, he felt a hand pushing him lightly on his chest and suddenly a soft touch on his lips. His eyes widened when he saw the gray hair and slightly crooked glasses up so close. The kiss that Gregory pressed on his lips was still gently and sweet, even if they had been running up and down for the last minutes.
When Gregory pulled away Cahya was speechless without blinking. His face got a shade of red that was a bit too much, but he was glad that it was all dark so no one could see it.
And just then a ring sound came out and he noticed Gregory had the gun aimed at him and a small victorious smile on his lips. He tricked him.
"Gotcha!" Gregory's smile widened in a small grin that Cahya wasn't very sure he had ever seen before.
"..." Cahya felt his face getting more hot at the scene, and he suddenly felt a strong need to have something to cover his whole face. "W-Well, that's not going to work again!!"
"Hehehe" Gregory took a few steps back, holding the gun close to himself again. "I wonder?"
And before Cahya could say anything, Gregory had already been lost out of his sight. A new round was going to start. Cahya took a deep breath, and a grin formed on his lips.
This time it was going to be him who was going to surprise Gregory.

October 2018
The inspiration for “Twins” came from a discussion with my Biology students about Dolly the sheep. She made headlines in the late 1990s when scientists cloned her using a process called somatic cell nuclear transfer. Basically, DNA was taken from a body cell in a living sheep, placed in an empty…
New story! Twins - Gregory Kane Twins Gregory Kane @GregoryAKane
Our twins visit once a month. They arrive one at a time, passing one another as they move up and down the path dividing the manicured campus. Years ago, we’d gather to watch from the laboratory’s third floor as they ran free on the grass below, dancing and jumping and tumbling, swinging in their parents’ arms like tiny trapeze artists. We rose to our tiptoes and pressed our palms and noses…
A:My favorite of the classics is Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains.” The tale of a robotic household going about its daily routine after humanity has been decimated by an atomic bomb remains one of literature’s great cautionary tales. My favorite contemporary story is Ted Chiang’s “Tower of Babylon”, a dreamy tale of the construction of a tower that…
