'WORK', 2022.
WORK. Productivity. Labour. Time. Kitchen = Womb.
I have been thinking through the maternal body, its correlation to rooms in the home, and these as sites of production. Speculatively, I map the kitchen with the womb, both sites of productive and reproductive potential. Some of the colour used in this image is inspired by my mother’s birth stories and tales of psychedelic bodily fluids.
Unwell images are collaged together, exaggerated by photoshop adjustments, to emphasise the WORK, mechanics and processes of image making. The image/s both gesture and perform WORK. The image/s are ambivalent. Unstable. They mirror some of the body’s physiological responses to tiredness and stress, two common ailments suffered by new mothers.
