@seastarcrunchies submitted: My son spotted this new friend on a hike we took last night! We learned it's something called a grig, which I had never heard of before (I love learning about new critters!) I can't tell which of the 3 species it is that live in my area, they all look pretty similar on iNat, but that's ok :3
Gonna be honest I have also never heard of a grig. Turns out you can look at bugs for a long long long long time and still only know a fraction of them. Ily bugs

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER SMASH?
Medusa
Grig
On the left, Medusa! In PF2e this is a whole human-sized species with venomous snakes for hair who love collecting secrets. They can slow everyone nearby as they start to turn them to stone, finish the job with a glare, and that "can" is the twist you might not expect if you're mainly familiar with D&D. They can live normal lives, they aren't forced into isolation. They often work with criminal organizations, as information brokers, or even politicians if they can keep thier species secret. They're crafty, manipulative, and are in peak physical condition. Very hearty with incredible dexterity, and if all else fails...well, thier lairs are filled with statues of those who failed to take them. But I'm sure you're up for a challenge ;P
On the left, the Grig! These 1.5 ft (46 cm) tall elf/cricket centaur fey are brave and witty musicians that have a tendancy to fight evil waaaay to strong for them. They usually survive though, staying just out of reach with sonic blasts or making you groove to thier music! They use thier legs like magic fiddles, classic fantasy cricket stuff. They've also got innate magic to create disguises, turn invisible, and dazzle foes!
The Last Star Fighter premiered on July 13, 1984. The film stood out at the time for it's heavy use of early CGI and was often compared against Return of the Jedi that was still using stop motion, puppets, and matte paintings. Behind the scenes, the film was connected to the Halloween universe as its director Nick Castle played "The Shape" in Halloween, Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills, and "flasher" in Halloween Ends, and stars Lance Guest appeared as Jimmy in Halloween II and Dan O'Herlihy starred as Conal Cochran in Halloween III Season of the Witch. In the story, an alien named Centauri (Robert Preston in his final theatric role) travelled to Earth to recruit high schooler Alex Rogan (Guest), who lived in a trailer park, because he passed a starfighter test disguised as a video game. So his absense wouldn't be noticed, Centari left a Beta clone to take Alex's place and spend time with Alex's brother Louis (Chris Hebert) and Alex's girlfriend Maggie Gordon (Catherine Mary Stewart). Meanwhile in space, due to a betrayal by Xur (Norman Snow), Alex found that he and alien pilot Grig would have to use the last starfighter to fend off an invation lead by Lord Kril (Dan Mason). I don’t know if Tamsyn will ever reveal the original names of the Lyctors, but to me G1deon will always be Greg, in a nasal Kiwi accent. Fuckin’ Murray from Flight of the Conchords dubbed in over anybody who ever says it.
