The flavors of smoky, sweet, and spicy come together perfectly in Grilled Candied Bacon. This simple dessert works well for gatherings or as a decadent snack. It is sure to please a large crowd and disappear quickly!
Ingredients: 1 pound thick-cut bacon slices. 1/2 cup brown sugar. 1/4 cup pure maple syrup. 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for a spicy kick.
Instructions: Adjust the heat on your grill to medium-high about 350F or 175C. Combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper if using in a small bowl. To prevent overlapping, place the bacon slices directly onto the grill grates in a single layer. Apply a liberal amount of the maple syrup mixture to the upper side of every bacon slice using a basting brush. Once the bacon is crisp and caramelized on the bottom, close the grill lid and cook it for three to four minutes. Turn the bacon slices over and brush additional of the maple syrup mixture on the other side. Grill the bacon for a further three to four minutes, or until it is crispy and caramelized on both sides. To allow the caramelized coating to slightly harden, remove the grilled candied bacon from the grill and allow it to cool for a minute or two. Serve your mouthwatering appetizer or savory and sweet snack on top of grilled candied bacon!
