Sometime in summer…

Dearest mother,

I am writing to you from the room of an inn in Ryevost. We are only a few hours away from Os Alta, but had to make the stop for the night. I could wait to write to you from the palace, but I miss you dearly. Father and I are both well, so don’t you worry our travels through the fold were as peaceful as it could be. Do not ask because I will not indulge your nerves with details of that portion of our journey. For the most part are travels have been quiet easy besides a few bumpy roads and detours to avoid any army bases. You should know I am no longer as apprehensive as I once was at reaching the palace. As a matter of fact, I am quite eager to in hopes of never having to ride a carriage again for quite some time. I think even when the opportunity arises I shall not ride another carriage on principal. I will walk everywhere, I wonder what the court folk shall think of that.

My only regret, mama, is that you are not able to be here.

I am sure we will get to see each other soon, but for now letters will have to do. Father and I, believe it or not, are getting along well. I promised you I would look at this engagement from an open mind and I am trying my best.

The inn we are staying in tonight is very nice. It’s chilly out so close to the Sokol river so they lit the fireplace in my room. The fire crackling and the sound of the steady flow of the water coming from the window will surely put me to sleep the minute I get into bed. The room itself is very lovely. The walls are lined with a charming blue wallpaper, decorated with vines and flowers. They are purple, red and yellow with every so often a Bluejay in sight. It reminds me of my room back home and all paintings I covered the walls in. The bed is lovely truly and I don’t just say that because I’ve spent so much time on a carriage.

I keep thinking back as to how not too long ago I was in my room, well my old room now, I suppose, never thinking I would be where I am now, a few hours away from going to the palace and being engaged to a prince. Do you miss your childhood home, mama? I feel as though I will always miss it. And I miss you the most. I will miss all of it. The paintings you let me decorate my room with, being so close to the sea, getting to gossip over dinner every night while papa pretends not to listen. I know I am growing up. That I have grown up and we’ve stalled all this for as long as we could. That it was about time I move away, got married, and began my own life. I just wish there was another choice. Why must my fate be marriage with a prince? Why must it take me miles away from where I call home?

I’m sorry, mama, I don’t wish to make you sad or regretful of this really. I am just so nervous about it all, mama. As much as I try to think and even pretend otherwise. All the dukes and duchesses we have stayed with speak very highly of the prince so I am sure we get along fine. I just feel so much uncertainty with the future. I will write tomorrow night in the palace and I’m sure my letter will be extremely happy and hopeful. You should get it along with this one or maybe in a few days. All shall be well I’m sure.

The funny thing about making crossover DRs is that, even if some of them no longer exist in the forefront of my mind, technically the planetos, my own fantasy world and the grishaverse continents all exist in the same globe. Does it make sense? No, but it's bot supposed to make sense it's supposed to be my fun time

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐘 𝐁𝐀𝐆? — MY SIX OF CROWS REALITY

after making one of these for my marauders reality (see here!) I've been inspired to make another! this one is a bit different though, because it's more of a utility belt than a bag. but, hey, it's got bags on it so that counts, right? as before, inspired by this post by @chaaistained and this one by @hrrtshape and, most recently, this one by @macknshift!! (y'all's stuff is always beautiful by the way mwah mwah)

this belt bag is a frankenstein creation of a couple things. It originally started as just the big pouch, but then I realized I needed more storage and added a second pouch. then I kept accidently breaking the glass vials I was having wylan make for me and it got everything soaked in poison, which isn't ideal. so I made the little holster for them!

OUTER POCKET

𓅂 various makeup products stolen from various sources. two lip balms one from kerch and the other from shu han. both expensive. mascara I stole from poppy that I use occasionally, also doubles as eyeliner. also nina's lipstick that I hold onto for her because she asked me to.

𓅂 a flip out mirror that once was my mothers. one of the few trinkets I have left from my time in ravka

𓅂 a cigarette case that was once kaz's. he said he didn't want it anymore, I think he just wanted me to have something of his to hold onto.

𓅂 gears from wylan's workshop that I kept "accidently" pocketing. they were shiny.

MAIN POCKET

𓅂 my sketchbook. my pride and joy. my precious. it has a place for not only paper, but also slots for all my main pens and pencils all in one place.

𓅂 my other pride and joy. I love this things to death. I first took them to try and I have never regreted it. makes the most beautiful landscape paintings of the view of ketterdam outside kaz's office's window

𓅂 various notes and cards including—a card from a winning hand against jesper, a piece of poetry torn from my sketchbook and slightly crumpled (far too sappy to be consumed without cringing), a postcard from ravka. it might be from my family, I didn't care to check, but didn't have the heart to throw it away. a strength tarot card from nina's deck that she gave me after a reading and a death card from mine that I took out—I'm done with change in my future.

SECOND POCKET

𓅂 a pouch full of kruge coin. there's probably also some bills shoved in there, but the coin just makes a lovely sound.

𓅂 a flask full of the whiskey from kaz's office. no other tastes the same as his.

𓅂 various stolen keys. not sure where they all unlock, but they are very pretty. once again, they were shiny, leave me alone.

𓅂 an ace lighter that someone left at the crow club. too bad, so sad, it's mine now.

𓅂 old dice that are so worn down that you can't make out the numbers very well. I keep them around for the noises.(this is a pattern of mine)

𓅂 my lucky deck of cards, blessed by kaz's sneaky ass magician hands by making my ace of spades disappear. I still havent gotten it back. the deck's still pretty lucky though.

𓅂 a pocketwatch that also used to belong to kaz. he has like three, I doubt he'd miss this one.

𓅂 a few bullets from jesper's gun, also good luck charms, blessed by jesper's unnaturally straight aim (aka fabrikated)

𓅂 a couple lockpicking tools because you never know when you might need them

WEAPONS—some are stored in my belt, others on my person, every single one felt important to include

𓅂 my beloved garrote wire. inej has her saint knives, jesper has his guns, and I have this. I love this one, though it isn't always practical to use, that's where the others come in. however, if I have a choice, this is what I'm reaching for. stored around the edge of my belt, the ends coming together to make a buckle.

𓅂 the only not-weapon here: a lucky dice keychain that jesper gave me. a little ironic, considering his own bad luck at the tables, however they haven't seemed to give me any bad energy yet. clipped onto the loop on my belt.

𓅂 three feather knives that are my treasures. my garrote is always my first choice, however these babies are just as reliable. my first knives when I came to ketterdam, they've never one done me wrong. usually stashed in my boots.

𓅂 a flip out knife that I brought over from ravka with me. I don't remember where it came from, but something tells me it was once important to someone. and now, it's important to me. usually in my inner pocket.

𓅂 my last feather knife that inej gave me from her collection. she said it was her way of protecting me, by giving me one of her saints. sankta margaretha, I think she said was this knife's name. patron saint of thieves and lost children, I believe. fitting. however, I'm not exactly one to believe in the power of the saints. the gesture means more to me though than the name.

SHADOW AND BONE DR

by typical grisha standards i’m a tidemaker — an etherealki who can manipulate water. but that isn’t what makes me stand out, it isn’t what makes me important.

✷ what is a seer?

every few centuries, somewhere across the globe, a seer is born. a person (typically grisha) with the ability to see events that are yet to come. their ability can be called subjective precognition or the sight, and allows them to see possible futures based on decisions made by those related to a situation. the ability is not perfect, and the seer’s visions will change depending on actions taken, but it is still an incredibly useful and highly coveted skill, so seers are often inclined to hide their abilities in order to protect themselves.

for years, the darkling searched for a seer who he could use to help him take control of ravka, and in 1860, he finally found one in a ravkan village called sikursk. the girl was only eight when she was taken to os alta and trained privately at the little palace, and she grew up knowing the darkling as her father and mentor.

✷ discovery

as far as i can remember, there has never been a time without the visions.

at first, when i was young, they had been blurred and unintelligible, and i had worried that something was wrong with me, so i had never told anyone about them, but keeping a secret like that wasn’t easy, and i could only hide my gift for so long.

when the grisha testers came to my village, i had wanted to run. the other children would spread all sorts of rumours about the test and what happened to those who were revealed to be grisha, so each night i would pray to the little marble saints that stood at my bedside, i would beg for them to let me be normal, to let me stay with my family. they didn’t listen.

when the tester took my wrist, amplifying a power i hadn’t known i’d had, the water in a nearby glass rose from its vessel and evaporated into the air, making it undeniably clear that i was grisha. frightened, i was attempting to run when the vision overcame me.

a dark hall, an unfamiliar face, a raging fire.

the next thing i knew, i was alone in a carriage headed for os alta, never to return to the place i had called home or the family i had loved.

✷ honing my power

even after i learnt the truth about the rare power i had, and the history behind it, i struggled to control the visions. they would be jumbled and unclear, and often irrelevant to what i had been intending to see. but it didn't take long for me to learn to harness my abilities properly under the guidance of the darkling, and soon i could monitor and relay decisions made by enemies of ravka; not long after that, i could see anything that might pose a risk to the darkling, essentially serving as a personal alarm system.

✷ how do visions manifest?

whenever they come on, the visions will take over my body. most often they cause me to stop what i’m doing and remain statutory as they run their course. other times — when they’re at their most intense — they can cause me to stumble or lose my footing and fall to the ground.

sometimes disjointed words will spill from my lips, but there’s rarely anyone there to catch them. my eyes gloss over, going a milky white, and then the visions commence.

when they happen at night, they can last anywhere from a few seconds to over an hour, but the longer they last, the harder they are to remember when i finally jolt awake. that’s why i keep my journals, they’re the best way for me to record whatever i see.

✷ side effects

unfortunately, my visions don’t come without setbacks — they can sometimes cause headaches and fatigue, and the visions themselves aren’t always particularly pleasant to witness.

as well as this, my visions aren’t always right, in fact they’re rather subjective, since they’re related to decisions made by those i’m watching. if a decision is uncertain, or multiple possibilities are being considered, the futures i see can be unclear or be plural. typically, the visions become more clear as an event draws nearer, as decisions are solidified and plans set in stone.

One of my favorite parts of scripting is finding a way to fit my siblings into my dr. I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters in my cr and we’re not that close but I can’t imagine life without them. Sometimes they’re exactly like my cr and sometimes they’re canon characters that reminded me of them. In one of my pjo DRs my older brothers are Castor & Pollux. In my mha dr my older sister is an underground pro hero named Vineyard. In my Hogwarts dr my twin sister is a Slytherin prefect. In my descendants dr my fantasy high dr my little brother is a fighter who goes to oak shield middle school. And in my Grishaverse dr my youngest brother is a squaller prodigy. I really love my siblings <3
