This week's lesson focused on the structure of the face, feet, and the introduction of the GROUND PLANE.
For the face, start thinking about the planes that are created by a skull's structure, such as the zygomatic arch and other facial muscles. The relationship between the ears and nose and the way lips curve around the face should also be taken into consideration. Different ethnicities display different characteristics, just as males and females have their distinctions.
For the foot, take note of it's rotation and the toes while drawing it. The inside ankle is angular and higher while the outside ankle is round and lower.
Now for the GROUND PLANE. This was the most challenging lesson for the day and will continue for the rest of the semester. Whenever you draw, you will have an eye level. It is the best constant to measure by. Use the eye level as your "middle" on the page. The closer the figure is on the ground plane, the lower and bigger it will be. The further the figure, the higher and smaller it will be. If a figure seems like it is floating or out of place, it can be fixed by adding a platform of some kind. Lastly, try to link your figures to make an interesting composition. The sooner you start trying, the better.
Don't forget to continue your research for drawings you can learn from. Drawings that show form, balance, hierarchy, etc.
