“it doesn’t matter.” callie isn’t the type to keep things from mark, but she doesn’t want to tell him the truth. she doesn’t need him getting angry at someone he doesn’t know for something that he can’t control anyway. she’s fine now, and that’s all that matters. she has promised herself to not tell anybody the truth behind the black eye, and this is no exception.
“i just ran into a wall or something.” yeah, she’s a terrible liar, but she’s hoping he will drop the subject and not bring it up again. it’s not likely, she knows, but she’s going to try anyway. “so - what’s for dinner?” when in doubt, change the subject. it’s what she does best, and now is no exception. she only hopes mark can’t see through her plan.

“No mama!” Layla shouted as Lexie approached her. The little girl was crying, tears down her face as she clung to her favorite stuffed animal and tried to hide herself under her blanket to avoid having to take the medicine. Even with her mom being a doctor, she didn’t like anything medical related and got scared by anything to do with being sick “No scary, please no!”
