Amortentia
Seokjin accidentally has a swig of a love potion.
*Mun’s POV*
I placed my bookmark in my book and shut it before getting up from my armchair in the Gryffindor common room. I stretched as I walked over towards the window, looking out and seeing the lively Quidditch field, still full of activity despite the cold, rainy February weather. Though our entire house decided to go support Gryffindor in today’s game, Seokjinie and I decided to stay in the warmth of the Gryffindor tower, making us the only two there… apart from the random Gryffindors coming in and out to get something from their dorm rooms.
“You could’ve gone to the game without me, you know…” I heard the voice of Seokjinie say as he came back down from the boys’ dorm with his glass of leftover butterbeer from the day before. “I didn’t want to go out in the rain… and you know I’m not crazy about Quidditch anyways,” I replied, returning to my armchair which was directly next to his. Though the common room belonged to all Gryffindors, whenever we were in it, these two armchairs in the corner kind of became our spot. There were several other chairs and couches around, where our friends would all sit when joining us. Seokjinie was definitely the most popular guy in Gryffindor at this point, I’m just riding along his coattails.
Seokjinie took his seat in his armchair as well. “Well, I’m glad you decided to stay in with me… It would’ve been lonely otherwise,” he said with a smile before taking a sip of his butterbeer. I smiled at him and then opened my book up and began to read again, until my thoughts were interrupted by Seokjinie again. “Mun-ah… do you know Hwasa?” he asked, suddenly. “I think she’s a third year Gryffindor, but I don’t know her, really… why?” I asked, still looking at my book. “Oh, I was hoping you could help me meet her… I think I’m crazy about her,” he said, causing my eyes to grow wide as I looked at my book, afraid to look up and meet his eyes.
Little did Seokjinie know, but I’ve had the biggest crush on him for a long time now. I still had small hope at times that he might feel the same way, but if he did, he could’ve admitted it. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I kept hoping that maybe this would be the year that he asked me out… but I knew I was just fooling myself. “You’re… in love with Hwasa?” I asked, finally finding the courage to look at him. He furrowed his brows. “I… I don’t think it’s ‘love,’ I’ve only ever felt that way about you… no, with Hwasa I just can’t stop thinking about her. And all I want is to be with her right now,” he said, though he looked a little confused in saying it.
*Wait… so… he loves me, er- loved me? But now he loves Hwasa? Someone he’s never even met? Hold on…* I thought to myself. “Let me see that,” I said to Seokjinie, reaching over and taking his butterbeer from him. Though I could faintly smell the butterbeer, it had an even stronger scent of freshly baked goods, shampoo, and home… It smelled like Seokjinie. “Amortentia… but a poorly brewed one,” I said, looking into the butterbeer. The potion wasn’t giving as much of a mother-of-pearl sheen as it would if brewed correctly. “It’s just a love potion, Seokjinie. You’re actually not in love with Hwasa like you say,” I tried to explain to him, though I could tell he was getting more and more delirious.
“I already told you I’m not in love with her… but I’ve got to be by her side, and I’ve got to know if she feels the same way about me,” he said, suddenly standing up as if he were ready to go after her. I stood up and put my hands on his chest, pushing him back. “I’m sure she feels the same way about you, or she wouldn’t have snuck the potion into your drink in the first place,” I said, trying not to blush at our contact. “Aishh, that makes my heart beat so fast, I need to go see her and tell her how I feel,” he said, pushing forward, though I pushed back.
“Stop, Seokjinie… we need to go to the infirmary,” I said, trying to push him back, though he was stronger than I was. “Why? Is Hwasa there?” he asked, grabbing the sides of my arms and looking me in the eye. I continued to blush as I nodded. “There’s only one way to find out,” I said, taking his arm in one hand, and the butterbeer in the other. I pulled him behind me out of the Gryffindor tower and through the castle, being cautious around corners and anytime I heard footsteps or voices coming our way. We were able to avoid running into anyone, and when I came into the infirmary where Madame Pomfrey was taking care of a Ravenclaw student wearing a Quidditch uniform… must be an intense game today.
“Good afternoon,” I said with a bow after she turned to see us. “Hello, dear… what’s wrong with him?” she asked, seeing the way I was holding his arm and how dazed he looked. “His butterbeer was spiked with amortentia, do you have the antidote?” I asked. “Ahhh… to be expected with Valentine’s around the corner… He’s the first one this season! Of course, I have the antidote, just have him lie on the bed over there,” she instructed. “Hwasa’s not here…” Seokjinie said, looking around. I shook my head and pulled him over to the bed, getting him to lie down after much bickering.
“Here, have him drink this,” Madame Pomfrey instructed, giving me a small shot glass full of liquid. “Here,” I said, giving it to him. He immediately obeyed, and was knocked out, fast asleep. “He’ll be like that for half an hour or so, you don’t have to wait around for him,” she said as we looked at his open, drooling mouth. “I don’t have anything better to do,” I said, pulling up a chair and sitting on it. In about half an hour, I heard a mumble from Seokjinie as he woke up. “Aishhh, Mun-ah??” he said, rubbing his forehead as he sat up. “What am I doing in the infirmary? And why does my head hurt?” he asked.
I quickly fetched him a glass of water and came back to his side. “Here, drink… Someone sneaked a love potion into your butterbeer. You were hysterical,” I said to him as he sipped the water. “Who?” he asked. “She was some third-year Gryffindor. Madame Pomfrey gave you the antidote. “Aish, did I say a ton of embarrassing things?” he asked, ears getting red. *”I don’t think it’s ‘love,’ I’ve only ever felt that way about you…” his words came back to my mind at his question.* “Yeah.. you said a lot of crazy things… but I’m the only one that heard it,” I answered.
“I’m so sorry! I’m sure I didn’t mean any of the things I said! I hope you will just ignore it,” he added, rotating so that his legs were now hanging off the side of the bed. “Right…” I said, with his words still in my mind. He was on a potion, there’s no way he meant what he said, I had to just forget about it. “Thank you for taking care of me,” he said, affectionately patting my shoulder after he stood up. “We’ll have to be more careful about your food and drinks… I’m sure someone else will try to entice you with their love potion at some point,” I said with a chuckle as we walked out of the infirmary together.
A couple of days later, I found myself meeting Samdol in the library like I often did on school days. We have grown quite close over the past few years, and I felt like I could tell him anything. “Hey Mun!” he said, smiling at me as I sat down across from him at an isolated corner of the library. “Hey, Samdol…” I said. “I’ve been wanting to ask you something. Last semester, you did your potions essay on amortentia, right?” I began. He nodded. “Yeah, I’m pretty much an expert on it now… what about it? Is this about Jin’s incident?” he asked. “You heard about that?” I replied. “Of course, I think the whole school has heard about it now!” he said with a laugh.
“Well, I’ll tell you something you haven’t heard… While Seokjinie was under the influence of the potion, he said that what he was feeling wasn’t love… love was something that he only felt towards me,” I said, blushing at the thought of it. “So, after thinking about it a lot, I was wondering if it was possible to make an amortentia for two people? Maybe my DNA accidentally got into the potion along with Hwasa’s,” I continued, as I was still convinced there was no way Seokjinie could actually love me. “Actually, and this will sound cheesy… but according to my research, it’s possible for the effects of the amortentia to be lessened by true love,” he said, looking at me with a smirk.
“So you’re telling me there’s a chance that Seokjinie actually likes me back?” I asked. Samdol already knew about my crush on Seokjinie, so I could be open with him all the time. He shrugged. “I think you should keep an open mind about it,” he said, simply, with a small wink before looking down at his book and continuing to study. I smiled smally and followed suit. If I knew anything about Lee Sandeul, it was that he was incredibly loyal. Even if Seokjinie said anything about me to him, I knew he would’ve been sworn to secrecy and he would never break that. I just decided to study, while keeping my mind open if Seokjinie decided to show up in my daydreams.
