@guardian-rocket sent: "This song made me think of you~"
Mantis beamed when her friend and Captain offered her one of the earbuds of the Zune, a hand moving to delicately pick it up and place it in her ear. She remained perched on the sofa of Rocket's apartment, her smile widening when Rocket played the song.
When it was over, she happily clapped. "Thank you, Rocket! I loved it! I liked the reference to Space Oddity by David Bowie. Thank you for sharing it with me, my friend." Mantis gently took the Zune from Rocket's grip, and she picked a song as well.
"This song reminded me of you."

❝ @guardian-rocket ily your Rocket so much! You understand his motivations and mannerisms so well and I love interacting with you! ❞

Granted, Mantis was not too familiar with the tradition, but it was a celebration as valid as any other. There was something intrinsically beautiful about it, a chance for new beginnings, even if it was merely a symbolic thing.
Her smile widened and she opened her arms to wrap them around the furry Guardian. As much as Mantis liked embracing her friends, she knew Rocket wasn't always comfortable with physical contact – which was why she had asked first. The future was uncertain, but Mantis knew that, if the Guardians had one another, everything would be fine.
"I love you, Rocket. We all love you very much. I hope you have a wonderful year, my friend."
What's your most beautiful feature?
"I suppose. I use it to hold the hands of others, calm their emotions and reassure them. I do think that is a beautiful thing!"

"I suppose," Mantis replied with a shrug when Rocket asked if they were returning to Earth. "Christmas is a Terran tradition, so I assume we will be able to find them there."
Her expression was cheerful, though a subtle crease between her eyebrows betrayed concern and uncertainty. "So what do these... gingerbread men look like?" Mantis asked, trusting that Rocket would know the answer.

Mantis blinked, visibly unsettled by Rocket's answer. A magical death cult? Quill had never mentioned that, but then again he was eight years old when he left Earth.
The part about smashing pumpkins sounded a little more familiar, mostly because of the band. Though Mantis didn't know if there was an actual correlation or not.
"A movie about Halloween?" Mantis repeated. Eyes widened when Rocket showed her the tape. "Oh, it is indeed named Halloween! Where did you get this from?" She knew Rocket would sometimes steal things, but at the end of the day they were trying to understand Earth better.
