Hey guys!! Our Yggdroid friend from Armoroad’s arrived!

Her name is Sigma, and she wasn’t just our guild Yggdroid, she was the Zodiac too! Now here she’s just a straight-up mage type. She was part of the astronomers of the Deep City before she joined Ragnarok!

Greetings. ((Sigma wears a polite smile.)) It’s all as Xiang has said. I am from the Deep City, a creation of Yggdrasil’s power. I was an astronomer for King Seyfried, and also helped keep the peace between Armoroad and the Deep City when things were still very tentative.

I’ve been called here to Maginia to be the bodyguard for one of Phoenix’s ranks. Florentin, was it? Apparently he is being harassed over rumors, yes?

Yeah! Florentin! Everyone thinks he’s a vampire!

I see. Well, hopefully my presence can deter at least some of them.

Oooh, that’s right, I didn’t say why King Seyfried had astronomers, did I!? Apparently he wants to go to the “back, starry ocean” that Yggdrasil came from! Do you think the other trees are like Armoroad’s, Sigma? What about Maginia’s?

According to my databanks, the Yggdrasil trees of the other cities are all manmade. Armoroad’s tree is the only one of its kind known to be on Earth.

Huh... I wonder why it was the only one, and where it came from...

Well, no big deal, right? Everything’ll be fine!

Isiah? This is Junpei of Phoenix. I've come with my guild's Medic, Miku. A guildmate of mine said they were worried about Lynus's health, but they were too self-conscious to approach you themselves, or something like that. I figured I should come as guild leader, and Miku said she wanted to help out if she could.

Hm? What’s this about Lynus? Don’t tell me that kid has overworked himself into a cold again. Honestly, that kid is one of a kind alright. I’ve never met anyone who completely lacks self-care.

…Damn, worst of all I can’t say or do anything because he’s too fragile. And nice. And, well, mustn’t forget his over-protective husband, can we?

A teammate, huh? *fights a smirk* Didn’t have the guts to face me head on?

Yeah, alright, I’ll drop what I’m going to head on over to check in on Lynus. Tag along if you want, but know that you’ll be promptly pushed aside by a certain landsknecht if Lynus is indeed feeling ill. Don’t get in his way, yeah? I ain’t healing you if you do. I’ve got enough trouble on my hands.

Hello, Junpei of the Phoenix Guild here. I remember devices like this from Lost Shinjuku, but my prosthetic makes the screen act funny, so I have to use my left hand... Anyways, I would assume that the potion is an aphrodisiac. But it's quite strange that it would only affect strangers. Perhaps it was originally intended to be used against enemy armies, and that's why it was hidden. Perhaps my old friend in Tharsis would know something, but we haven't spoken since I left for Etria... MfG, Junpei

Hello Junpei, it’s nice meeting you.

The potion does seem like it could be intended to be used as an aphrodisiac, and yet I do not think that’s quite right either. It didn’t seem to increase a person’s sexual desire; rather they were lured in by the scent alone. I certainly didn’t sense any of those feelings, especially towards me. They were almost in a trance like state. Like…puppets on a string.

The more I think of it, the more disturbing this potion and its potential uses are.

Its scent wears off after some time, but that’s still plenty of time for the unfortunate to get themselves into trouble.

Thinking back on it, perhaps it was my scent or presence that was the key ingredient? Axel and my guildmates are long used to my presence and personal scent, so that is why those I’ve never met and had no previous contact with were drawn in by the potion, and ultimately to me.

I feel I will need to do more research and perhaps create an antidote in case someone else happens to stumble across a spell or tonic similar.

((The clinic was dark. Havardr was lying in his bed, sleeping deeply for once. Logre was at his bedside, not asleep, but wide awake, watching over the other man in his rest. He could see that, despite his deep sleep, Havardr’s expression was pained, and he was tossing and turning in bed. But at the same time, Logre didn’t want to wake him... Havardr began mumbling in his sleep. It went from barely intelligible mumbles to quiet fragments of sentences.))

I’m sorry... I’m sorry... Please, I didn’t mean... No, no... I...

...Havardr?

((Logre moves to grab Havardr’s hand, but Havardr turns again, away from him, his hand hidden now.))

I can’t get up... ((He begins coughing, though with no blood this time, but still deep and rattling in his chest.)) I can’t get up... Please, I’m... Can’t...

I didn’t...mean...

Hey, it’s just a dream!

((Logre stands up and goes to shake Havardr awake.))

I’m so sorry, please, you can’t...!! ((His voice rises to a crescendo until petering out entirely.))

((His eyes fly open and he shoots up in the bed, gasping for air. Logre kneels down beside him, and puts one hand on his back and grabs Havardr’s close hand with his other hand.))

Havardr, are you alright? Was it...that dream again?

((Havardr is shaken into silence; all he can do is nod before he breaks down into tears. He clings to Logre like a life preserver, sobbing openly into his shoulder, and Logre holds him close. He knows...exactly what Havardr saw in his dreams. The fire, the snow... And must have heard their screams. All he can do is hold him close and stay silent, let him feel the things he’s tried shutting out for so long.

And so he does.))

((Havardr races up to the tavern door, keeping an eye out for Lynus and Axel behind him to make sure they don’t get separated.

The tavern door is closed, and there is a note on it:

I saw Lepido and the others leaving the bar with Kvasir in their arms. I overheard them talking about taking him to the Alpha Plains, so I’m going to follow them there and confront them at the Plains. Easier than trying to confront them in the street where law enforcement can get involved. Follow me there if you want to get that necklace back!

Havardr tears the note off the door and shows it to Lynus and Axel.))

See, I was right...! They’re going to the Alpha Plains. We should hurry... I...I’m worried what Junpei might do to Lepido. Or the others. And the wolves...

((As Havardr wakes up, he realizes that it’s day now, from the light coming into the room. He also realizes that there’s something on or in his arm; he glances over and sees it’s an IV.))

When--- When did this happen?

((In his drowsy daze, he nearly goes to grab it before stopping himself. And when he looks up to ask Logre what happened while he was out, he sees the chair is empty.))

What happened while I was out...? Damn... Lynus stuck me with a needle, and then...

((He looks around the room. Most of the other beds are empty, except for the one across from him, across from the chair. Logre is lying there, sound asleep, or something like it. Havardr squints to see if he has an IV in him too before realizing he doesn’t have his glasses on.

He fumbles for his glasses, but they clatter onto the floor. He tries to bend over to pick them up, out of instinct.))

...Damn, wait, can’t rip the fucking IV out.

((He lies back on the bed with a frustrated huff, nearly crossing his arms before, again, remembering the IV in his arm.))

Hopefully Lynus got some rest, at least...

Hi guys. We, uh, returned from the hospital. We’ve been gone a while, I know. Havardr was out all the next day after the surgery, and then stayed there for a few days after. Me and the others stayed at an inn near the hospital so we could be close by in case anything happened, so that’s why we’ve been gone too.

Apparently some shit went down in the few days I was gone...? Like, uh, someone new joined the guild to be Flor’s bodyguard...because someone brought an F.O.E. into town while they were harassing him... What the fuck is wrong with you people? Bringing a goddamn bat int---

Hey now, let’s not get too steamed over this. It all worked out in the end, right?

...Yeah, I guess so.

Anyways, Havardr’s still gonna be going up to the hospital for his physical therapy, and Logre’s gonna be escorting him to and from there... But other than that, we’re all back. Well, Havardr and Logre are both gonna be off the battlefield for a while...but, eh, so it goes.

I’m glad to be back with you guys, heheh! And I’m sure the others are too.

I still don’t see why I’m out of commission for the time being...

((Junpei rolls his eyes.))

You know why, Idiot.

Anyways. All five of us that left before are back! Now then, to go get Sigma’s paperwork filed...

((Honestly not sure what happened to the other person involved in that arc, but I only just realized how long it’s been since they went MIA! I have like...no sense of time... Depression be a bitch like that. XD 

Uhhhh, anyways, Junpei, Havardr, Logre, Lis, and Miku are all back for asks and shit... Sorry about the delay!

And also, I guess you can sorta retcon those asks where Vash and Florentin said the surgery was taking a long time. Junpei definitely would’ve sent a note to his husband explaining what was going on, even if it was kept as a private matter within the guild.))

Greetings, one and all. I am the newest member of Guild Phoenix, Florentin Bélanger. I am of noble birth, and once lived in a small nation to the far west, but I had...personal issues with my family, and have left home to become an adventurer.

I would be pleased to speak with other adventurers in the city. For a while now, I have been exploring the Eastern Shrine on my own, but recently, I have been given cause to join onto a guild, and chose Phoenix after speaking with an exploration team of theirs in the Eastern Shrine one fine day.

However, despite Havardr’s insistence, I am not a vampire... (nervous laughter) He’s a bit of an odd one, isn’t he? Vampires aren’t even real... (He fidgets with the cuff of his coat.) I do, however, tend to stay inside during the day, due to my photosensitivity, and I also have a severe anaphylactic allergy to garlic, among other health issues. So perhaps this is simply his way of joking with me... I’ve been told that he tends to do that to break down any lingering reservations he might have around new people...

In any case, I will be pleased to answer most questions put forth to me. May we speak soon.
