Why did L believe that "Light's behavior was too perfect" even after he was caught on camera looking at inappropriate magazines?
Well, for one, I don’t think L is the type of person who thinks of a sex drive as somehow immoral or shameful. The boy looks at gravure in his locked room on his own time, it’s not really noteworthy or unusual or in any way something that would detract from his picture-perfect image to anybody who isn’t a total prude (like his poor easily shocked dad...)
As L says... he’s a teen. Teens do these things.
The ‘too perfect’ (or ‘too clean’, in the VIZ version) line refers to the fact that Light has done absolutely nothing that could even be construed as suspicious in the Kira case - he has not consumed any news at all, not even from the corner of his eye, he’s done only things that are clearly explainable....
It’s just a wild ‘coincidence’ that in the whole camera observation period, Light had absolutely no access to news media and has not done anything you could find even remotely suspicious - so normal it’s abnormal, you know? People don’t usually act by a playbook, they do weird things that don’t make sense to an outsider even if the explanations are usually entirely innocuous. (Like... if L observed me he’d watch me stand off-camera in the dark entrance to my closet for way too long and it’s because I am staring at my shirts for too long, but like, I could be doing anything in the dark there. Bad example but you get the gist, I hope...)
What does it tell about a person if their comfort character is Light?
