Gunner’s last text had him rolling his eyes. Beau wasn’t sure why he was feeling so pissed off and grumpy. He’d been so anxious for days and hated even thinking about it. It wasn’t fair to Gunner where his anxiety was coming from so he was trying to deal with it on his own - which apparently wasn’t the right solution. He just didn’t know what else to do. 

By the time he’d knelt and knocked at Gunner’s door, it had been 32 minutes since he’d been told to show up and he couldn’t bring himself to care much about the consequences. A part of him was so convinced this wasn’t going to go anywhere that he was wondering if Gunner would just end it right now so he didn’t have to bother anymore.

Though their time together over Thanksgiving had been wonderful (despite their mutual lingering sadness over Chris leaving), Beau could still tell Gunner was in the dumps about losing his career. Which, honestly, he couldn’t blame him for. Beau wouldn’t hurry him through mourning the loss of the future he’d counted on. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t make him feel better for a while, right? They’d discussed a bit of feminization before, and Gunner seemed to be on board, so Beau hoped this didn’t backfire. He’d left Gunner on the couch watching a movie, merely excusing himself to the bathroom. But when he came back, he was wearing a new outfit, thankful for the carpet that kept the click of his heels mostly silent. “Alpha?” he said in a soft, almost needy tone, leaning against the door frame. His fingers toyed with the bottom of the silky babydoll, partially to look seductive - but partially out of nerves.

He should have known something was up. Beau was in Gunner’s spare room, working on answering some emails from potential sponsors for his podcast, Bastet curled up on his lap taking a kitty snooze. Gunner was watching a game in the main room. Everything felt so perfectly domestic, he could almost ignore the fact that the Christmas call from his dad had been conspicuously absent. He didn’t think twice about answering a call from a number he didn’t know - he didn’t have his sponsors’ numbers saved after all - so he was completely unprepared to hear his father’s voice on the other end of the line.

“Beau. You’ve been ignoring my calls.”

Beau bit back the retort he wanted to give and instead stood up, curling Bastet in his free hand. “Hold on a second, Dad.” He put his phone on speaker, muted the microphone and walked into the main room, biting the inside of his lip before speaking again. “Alpha? My dad’s on the phone,” he said, trying to hide the little tremble of anger in his voice.

His head had been spinning since the night before. Of course, he couldn’t bring himself to put faith in the situation after just one conversation. Most of him still believed he would wind up in the claim his father had arranged for him. But a tiny, nagging spark of hope had taken up residence in his chest, thanks to one Gunner Clarington. The knowledge left him feeling shaky and vulnerable, only compounded by what he thought he saw through his window last night.

He was torn between wanting to ask and wanting to avoid when the universe seemed to make the decision for him right before lunch. He literally walked into someone’s broad chest, his throat working on a hard swallow when he saw it was Gunner. “Oh. Sorry, Sir, just... I’m clearly not paying attention to anything right now,” he said, shaking his head.

While it was tempting to take his time and linger to try and inspire Gunner into spanking him, Beau was slightly nervous about the prospect. Not because of the spanking itself - nope, that would definitely be fun - but he was worried about his own stupid emotional responses. He didn’t want to risk losing out on the chance to be fucked yet again by having a ridiculous, unnecessary emotional breakdown he didn’t understand. It was frustrating, not being able to figure out what was going on in his head. He wasn’t a fucking sniveling wimp of a sub - he was a pain-hungry cockslut, for goodness sakes, and he needed to remember that.

So he hurried through the act of grabbing clothes for the next day, jogging to Gunner’s room with his bag bouncing against his shoulder, dropping to his knees in front of his door just as he saw the Dom coming up the hall from the other direction. Beau flashed the Dom a cocky grin. “Looks like I won’t be getting punished for being late today, Sir,” he teased as Gunner approached.

Beau wasn’t exactly sure what the weekend would have in store for him. After the night before with Archer, he was even more confused as to what he needed. He’d ached to be affectionate with him - but he couldn’t. Not with the whole Ryder situation. If he’d learned anything while being here, it was that he couldn’t handle being second fiddle. He needed to be all in, or else he spiraled. And he would always be second fiddle when it came to Archer. So he needed to move on, officially. It was a double whammy, losing Adam and Archer all at once, officially.

But he tried to push that thought out of his mind as he knelt outside of Gunner’s rooms just before seven am, a plug nestled inside him as he’d been ordered. At least for this weekend, he would be the Dom’s focus - he hoped. Maybe it would cure his weird sexual dysfunction if anything. Beau stifled a yawn, a small grin on his lips as Gunner approached. “Morning, Sir,” he said quietly, admiring the vision Gunner made just after his run.

He really wished he knew how to snap out of this. He didn’t know where things stood with Adam. Things just kept getting worse with Archer - while, he assumed things were just more and more perfect for Archer with Ryder, since Ryder was so selfless and wonderful and just everything Archer needed. He sucked in a breath, wiping roughly at his eyes as he approached Gunner’s door. He’d spent more of the day crying than he cared to admit, and he was fucking sick of it.

Beau knocked before letting himself in, stepping out of his shoes and not even saying anything as he went to join the Dom on his couch. All he did was sit next to him, tucking himself under Gunner’s arm and leaning against his shoulder, still trying to quell another wave of sadness he couldn’t even begin to explain.

He wasn’t sure when he had turned into this person. He wasn’t this person - this person who was all broken up and depressed over a fucking guy. Two fucking guys. He wasn’t this person who needed to be someone’s world, he didn’t need to be wanted, he didn’t need fucking anyone, and yet, here he was, seeking out a Dominant for the purpose of pouring his heart out to someone who wouldn’t try to fix everything or tell him his thoughts and feelings weren’t right. He just needed to get this over with and he would be fine. Right?

Beau slipped his shades down over his eyes when he spotted Gunner, sliding his hands into the pockets of his shorts and approaching the Dom with an easy smile. “Ready to take in the sights around here, Sir? I wonder if there’s shrunken heads on poles somewhere. Knowing Sue, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
