This is a piece I made in response to the work of David Carson. I have previously posted some images of his work, the image which inspired me was a collection of pepsi bottles made up of text. I thought it was very striking so I found a YouTube tutorial on how to do this in GIMP. I decided to embolden the words “If I had trusted my gut instincts” to allow the viewer to ponder their own past experiences and what they would have done differently if they had listened to their gut feeling. I think the piece itself acts as a ‘vessel’ (pardon the pun) for discussion around shared experiences and personal stories which is something I am fond of. It is only by sharing our experiences with eachother that we learn about others and about ourselves. Sometimes it’s only when we look back that we realize our gut was right 

The silouette of this bottle is taken from a bottle of komucha which is a fermented tea and is said to be helpful in fostering a healthy gut. I wanted to incorporate this as a nod to the current popularity of health foods around gut health. 

Here are my thoughts when I read that sentence...feel free to comment what you would or wouldn’t have done if you trusted your gut. 

If I had trusted my gut instincts:

I would have left that relationship way sooner.

I would have said no.

I would have said yes.

I would have rested when my body was screaming for rest.

I would have stood up for myself.

I would have hugged them.

I would have asked if they were ok.

Friend or Foe?

The Seven of Swords card in the sideways suggests that you might have encountered someone who is not all they appear to be.

Don't be afraid to make necessary steps in any direction once you determine where you must go from here.

Whatever discomfort you may be feeling will pass.
