Gwen: I have to go, Sweetheart.
Knox: Go?
Gwen: They’ve called me in...something at the station.
Knox: Okay...be back soon.

Gwen: I have to go, Sweetheart.
Knox: Go?
Gwen: They’ve called me in...something at the station.
Knox: Okay...be back soon.
Gwen: How’s your meal, Melissa?
Melissa: A little peppery.
Knox: It was nice of Carraway to cook something special for you though.
Melissa: Yes, I’m not sure what she wants.
Adelaide: Could I try some, Grandma?
Melissa: Of course.
Knox: No, Adelaide. It’s improper to take someone else’s food.
Adelaide: Oh...okay. Never mind.
Ambrose: Grandma...
Melissa: I feel very strange...
Ambrose: Oh, I’m...I’m so very sorry...
Melissa: My dear, how’ve you been? It feels as though we’re always passing each other by.
Ophélie: Oh, I’m very well, thank you.
Melissa: You look it. Unlike the rest of us.
It’s Donovan’s birthday!
FIVE YEARS LATER: THE MOODY/LESTRANGE FAMILY
After a difficult and painful labour, Ophélie gave birth to a little boy, WREN. She fell into a long and feverish sleep and has been left feeling permanently drained. Ambrose has been working on a cure but is yet to have found one.
Shortly after Wren’s birth, Knox arrived with his wife, Gwen and their two children, ADELAIDE and DONOVAN as well as Melissa; Knox and Ambrose’s fearsome grandmother.
There had been an uprising in Silverhollow, and the family had fled to safety. They now live with Ambrose and Melissa has taken control of the town.
Adelaide is 9. Donovan is 6. Wren is 5.
Gwen: You need to stay one step ahead at all times.
Adelaide: I don’t understand how.
Gwen: Study the enemy. Get to know them, know how they think, and never give the game away.
Adelaide: But...
Gwen: Adelaide, this is important. You’re going to be in charge one day, so you need to understand this.
Adelaide: What if...what if I don’t want to be in charge?
Gwen: Don’t be selfish, sweetheart. We do these things to protect our kind, it’s not about you. Do you understand?
Adelaide: I think so...
Gwen: Good. Make your move.
