‘ there is never an end ’ (Oh hai)
“…We are not all so fortunate–or perhaps so unfortunate--as to be eternal in the grand scheme of things. And I do not find that discomforting. Knowing there is an end for those not unlike myself is perhaps the kindest thing for us. I think I would be more afraid of the burden of there being no end in sight at what would be the time for this life of mine to come to a close. Endlessness…the thought of it does not comfort me.” As he would think it would comfort no one truly sane and well–he finds himself thinking again of that vanished, grey eyed someone elsewhere in the world that has sworn himself to a morbid fairytale of forever, and he feels his heart flinch within himself once again. Familiar, painful. Like the white-hot hum of the whip in his hands that seethes in the company of this stranger with one of her many fits of hate. Not human, then, Leon surmises to himself quietly as those dawn blue eyes rove and consider.
Strange, to be stopped and spoken to about something of so much philosophy. But then, he supposes strange things are all that is given in the ruins of his young life now. The conversation between the two of them seems civil enough, no matter that Leon’s grasp is hesitant to take leave of the whip and its woven leather folded tightly in hand as he warbles softly on.
“But I suppose my immortality will be what follows in my footsteps. For better or for worse. Such that I will not live to see for myself.” A pause. A spot of rain kisses his cheek, sobering in its coldness and just enough to draw his cautious eyes to the sky dulling overhead if only for a moment. “Though all said and done, I still believe all things must end. No pain or sorrow or happiness–no life can withstand all the time there is. Even things that fancy themselves permanent and unyielding…”
Blinking back into that unknown face, the Belmont frees a sigh from his broad chest. “Even things as yourself.”
