Worlds Collide: The Stormchaser Mission

Two giant planets are about to collide. The robotic craft Stormchaser was sent by the United Mellanus Space Program to investigate this rare cosmic event. The political situation becomes more complex when slimegirl Flight Director Glatia and her human communications officer Sandra Pustovya find something that raises the stakes beyond mere planetary science. Just what is lurking in the dark?

anthropomorphism (or rather Gymnopomorphism) of trains is a lot more likely to use squash and stretch on Gymnome than on Earth, and less likely to just stick on a face, because what makes something read as a 'person' to them is 'stretchy and gooey thing'; a humanoid face is optional.

Even relatively realistic personified trains will employ at least a little squishiness compared to what we're used to.

This engine might be a cartoon character on Gymnome from one of the not-quite-as-realistic pieces of train media, the visual gag being something like the engine starting as a puddle of goo in the inspection pit in its track in the roundhouse, then the firelighter arrives, dives in, lights the fire offscreen, and the engine slowly inflates like a bouncy castle until it 'pops' up into the shape of a fully mechanical engine, and lands back on the rails above the pit.
