One year turns out to have been just long enough. It’s one more panel to screw on properly, one more final number check and then it’s done. Taking a step back from his work, Jackson lets his eyes wander over his finished creation. It’s an Astromech droid, created almost from scratch, really. With a base from a BB-series droid he managed to get his hands on, its insides are completely modified in order to fit both Jackson’s standards and requirements.
Like a good Astromech droid should, it can fit into the droid socket of a starfighter, serving as an aid that can control flight and power distribution systems, calculate hyperspace jumps as well as performing minor repairs. Jackson also didn’t stray from the binary language usage of the droid, nor the way it moves, considering all these things are pretty on point already.
What makes this particular one so special, is mostly the added layer around every part of it that makes it extra hard to kill. Aside from that he’s also put in an entirely self-written tech program that allows the droid to connect to a ship and instantly find any and every issue with its tech through a quick scanning method - be that engines, weapons, flight systems or anything connected. This of course only works on standard issue ships, unless blueprints of the modified starship is also presented to the droid.
The droid itself has a retractable tool arm that can be used to connect to a ship but also comes with an empty storage space in their body where both tools as well as a blaster can be stored. This makes it easier for the tech that has to work with it to be prepared for any situation in- or outside of the ship. The tool arm has various other uses too, some of them enabled solely due to the fact that he’s taken most of the self-preservation protocols out of the original programming in order to have the droid follow anyone into war zones if necessary.
Hardware wise, this droid is solid, dependable, hard to break and very nimble due to its selenium based rolling capabilities. Software wise, he has just finished putting together the best programming system for a tech droid currently in existence in any system in the entire galaxy - even if he says so himself.
It’s a proud smile that appears on his face next, eyes taking in his new little droid friend, as well as its name which is proudly painted on the side of its head: H1-A14. Jackson’s most precious and sophisticated creation. With a fully loaded battery and everything screwed into the right place, it is finally ready for duty. So he leans in, plugs it out of the charging socket and turns it on. It’s a short moment of nothing, before the droid buzzes to life, the red light on its ‘eye’ coming on and focusing a bit frantically around before settling.
And then it rolls right out of his room at top speed, disappearing from sight around the corner before he even realises exactly what just happened.
