Wait I'm a little confused-- what's all the drama going down with S.E. Hinton and The Outsiders?

Someone asked if her characters were gay and she said know, she’s a straight woman with no homo sexual experiences so she couldn’t possible write gay characters, and people are harrassing her and TELLING her that her characters are gay. They’re calling her homophobic but like.... she... wrote.. the book??? Wouldn’t she know????
