Trip #1 - 08/04/17
Hackett’s creek is a place I have been meaning to spend the night in for sometime now. It is ridiculously close to Baltimore, which is where I launched the boat from. Being so close, it was ideal for the first trip of the season as I knew I could get back to my car the next morning quickly and get the boat out without a large crowd about to watch me making a fool out of myself!

It took about an hour to run back down the river, the current weakening now and the wind behind me. A southern cardinal mark at the river’s mouth signalled that it was time to turn left to approach Hackett’s creek from it’s northern end via a shallow bay with a few rocks to dodge.

A 360 video of the creek. It is called Hackett’s creek after the man who piloted the Algerian pirates who sacked Baltimore in 1631 and was subsequently hanged for his actions. Here is the wikipedia about it. It is a fantastically calm, peaceful place to spend a night camping on the boat. Lots of bird song too, if you are into that! You are completely out of sight too which is always a bonus. You can pretend that you are miles from civilisation even though you aren’t!
