Trying to ignore the throbbing ache in both legs, the NSAIDs are making me feel sick. Didn't sleep at all. Holy super happy fun time.

What is haglund's deformity?
Pain in the back of the heel can be classified in a couple of different ways. If your pain is directly behind the ankle at the achilles insertion you may have achilles tendonitis or haglund's deformity. The difference is really subtle and often times both problems are present. Tendonitis is the inflammation found in the tendon. Pain is typically present with activity. Haglund's deformity is a bony bump (heel spur) on the back of the ankle, typically on the outside (lateral side) of the ankle. Remember, heel pain is never normal!
Initial treatment for both conditions includes rest, ice to the area, anti-inflammatory medication (such as ibuprofen) and open back shoes. Weight loss can also be helpful. In resistant cases casting and cortisone injection can be beneficial. Surgical removal of the bump may also be an option. This is a problem that can be effectively treated. You do not have to live with Haglund's deformity.
