Joshua hates feeling powerless so damn much. He needs to be strong, he needs to remain useful as much as he can. He can not believe he started coughing this much in the middle of a fight. It feels so unfair. Without Hope around, he feels like he could have easily died, and he hates this so much.

He manages to stand again and offers the other a smile. "I think... I think I can take some more, Hope. But thank you. Now that my cough has stopped, I should be fine," he assures. He really doesn't want the other to worry about him. He wishes people wouldn't worry about him all the time. "My apologies for this. It should not happen again."

HIDDEN BENEATH WHITE COVERS : purifies his being from the rot that hides underneath, stigma having taken residence inside his body. it has been silent for a while, stifling. behind locked doors there's the shuffling of feet; of doctors and nurses passing and tending to their other patients. rufus has only been here for a week or two, his mood plummeting along with his health, quicker than expected the doctor had said. and rufus is not afraid to admit he's terrified, at least to himself he can freely admit so. his turks ? not so much, they depend on him — they need him and he needs them in return. a frustrated noise coming from the turk currently taking care of him ; reno, hard to keep quiet and still and yet here they are, or should he say were ? hands settle upon the armrests of a wheelchair he was forced to use, cage rufus in. electric blues ablaze with life regard him, staring at him :

it is said with such sincerity that rufus has no choice but to accept it as nothing more than mere truth : a fact. even though they no longer get paid as much as they used to, even though rufus offered them an out — they stayed. and rufus would lie if he said he didn't appreciate it. a nod, licking of dried lips and a smile tugs on corners. he hides it though, if he's quick enough that's another question ( he doesn't mind it the turk would notice, he hasn't minded for a time. )   ❝ ofcourse not. ❞   not any longer.
