Update: Help Wanted

Hey, everyone! @summerssixecho here returning from living under a (stressful) rock.

First of all, I want to apologize to everyone involved in this project for putting everything on hiatus at the beginning of the year. Life happened and it has given me barely any time to write or continue with phandom activity, including this project.

So here are some notes for what’s to come and some additional thoughts I’d like to share with you all:

Help Wanted

As you’ve seen in previous posts on this blog, the response has been incredible from authors and collaborators willing to participate in this. I first envisioned it as something small and casual but never imagined the tons of love from readers and interest from authors this would have. Thank you for this on behalf of everyone participating in any way.

That said, I’d like to admit we need help to continue running this project in any of the following activities:

Moderating on Discord: the server is almost completely set up and waiting to send invitations to participants. We’d be expecting 40-50 users atm (definitely less than 100).

Contacting Participants: since we have so far almost 30 authors participating (plus several others who expressed interest), having someone else to keep in touch with new participants or communicating updates in private would be very helpful.

Let us know via ask if you would like to help in any of these roles or want to participate with anything else 💚

Next Steps

Since this has been on hiatus since early January, the Q&A submissions and times selected by authors had to be changed. Please feel free to continue submitting Q&A for any author in the Fic Rec List who has Q&A link active while we contact authors asking for their new desired Q&A date.

Please consider this is different from an annual phandom event and has no set deadline. Authors can decide to jump in any of the activities whenever they desire and we’ll try to provide the tools and support they need.

Additional Thoughts

If these last few months have allowed me to reflect on anything, it’s this:

Life happens. Don’t worry if some things have to be delayed or don’t go according to schedule, because other unexpected things can happen along the way.

It’s entirely okay to take your time or a break. It’s also important to note some authors/creators stop posting due to pressure (from others and their own) of fitting an update schedule, for example. When a beloved hobby feels like an obligation instead of something to enjoy, anyone can lose interest. So let’s also be understanding of creators and never pressure them to post something (there’s a difference between “I can’t wait for the next part!” to “please update!!!!”).

Incomplete can also be beautiful. Don’t worry if you didn’t finish that story. Sometimes posting a line from it out of context can be enough to let imaginations run wild with possibilities. Don’t worry if it’s not beta-ed or if it didn’t have the sequel you planned. Your words can be seeds to inspire more stories or headcanons to bloom. If you think the Wes Weston origin came from a kilometric (mile-long, for my US friends) thesis on background characters, you’d be surprised.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. I’ll try to slowly update the Fic Rec list, share individual story updates, publish new Q&A dates, etc, etc.

Update (sort of)

Hey, everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts in the last few weeks. Just to confirm this project is not dead :D (though it would’ve been pretty ironic lol)

Here’s what’s been going on behind the scenes:

Still collecting author’s info and participation (contacted authors: this doesn’t have a set deadline, so if you’ve been unsure about participating and want to join later, let us know whenever you decide). Also, thank you so much to everyone who’s already confirmed their participation!

Setting up a Discord server for authors and collaborators (artists, writers, and beta-readers), which should be up soon.

We’ll open soon Q&A submissions with the list of participating authors and the guidelines.

We’ll start posting the recommendation list of nominated works in the next few days.

So, yes, this project is still ongoing so stay tuned for more updates soon :)
