The Kennedy Half Dollar has been an American icon since 1964, honoring President John F. Kennedy just months after his assassination. But change is coming.
2025 will be the last year of the classic design. In 2026, as part of America’s 250th anniversary, the Mint will release a special half dollar—and Kennedy won’t be on it. Collectors will be chasing these final “Type 1” issues, struck in both Philadelphia and Denver.
