Danish National Maritime Museum

Danish architecture studio BIG has completed an underground maritime museum that loops around an old dry dock in Helsingør, Denmark 

Rather than filling the empty dock, BIG chose to repurpose it as a public courtyard at the centre of the new museum, then added a series of bridges that cut into the 60-year-old walls. 

"By wrapping the old dock with the museum program we simultaneously preserve the heritage structure, while transforming it to a courtyard bringing daylight and air in to the heart of the submerged museum," said Bjarke Ingels, the founding partner of BIG.

Denmark: Roskilde, Copenhagen and Helsingør 

Taking a break from Southern France, I went north for Fall break. I was welcomed with surprisingly temperate weather and lots of hearty food: Open faced sandwiches, pork and potatoes, all very fitting with the lush landscape. 

These pictures represent my favorite parts of Denmark. Kronborg Castle, best known as being Hamlet's Castle. Copenhagen is a town that is bustling but not very large. It has this homeyness where you can buy a six pack and drink by the canal. Better than Pop-tart pastries and Viking ships! Though those two don't seem to go together, I found both in Roskilde, Denmark, again a small old european town feel with a hint of modernity.
