My first issue for my YHS rewrite project will be dropping sometime this month! “BEREAVED” is an exploration of grief and what it means to move on. It follows 16 year old Fanni Liú’s (Funneh) summer vacation after the tragic death of a close friend.

I’ve mentioned before that these first issues are non linear parts of the overarching narrative that is “Hangdog” so this issues events take place shortly after my version of s1 events as seen in itsfunnehs mcrp!

Hangdog my YHS rewrite

As of now the first stage in creating this project involves 4 “episodes” each taking place at different point in time within the series project. Viewers who are not familiar with YHS as a whole will still be able to enjoy this as these “episodes” are meant to stand alone, further context and word building coming with later installments.

BEVREAVED

A 16 year old Fanni must grapple with the emotions and turmoil the aftermath of her friend’s death in a dorm fire. A confrontation of the idea of death, how it gives meaning to life and can cause evolution within an individual as well as defining what friendships and bonds mean to us. An exploration of grief and its often non linear path.

DESTITUTE

A 14 year old Ale/Alec takes on the burden of becoming head of his household as neither of his parents return one night. He grapples with the harsh reality that is life and what it takes to survive in the real world. While fighting cps and potential starvation, the looming threat of being separated from his sister leads to him taking drastic measures. An exploration of family and the often noble intentions behind what does to survive.

ONLOOKER

Gold/Gia and her ideas on social hierarchy, how much does status matter and does one ever truly know another person? Commentary on class (social and financial), the idea of the American dream and what it means to be perfect, what people are willing to do to ascend to perfection. Introspection from women, specifically women of color.

SQUEALER

A middle school Kyran becomes entangled in the death and coverup of a classmate. What follows puts his relationship with his closest friend to the test. An exploration of the weight of honesty and its consequences. What does a person value more?

To start these will likely be voice acted (maybe slight animation aspect) comics! The end goal is a short film that is related to the project and a lot of experimentation for my portfolio, I’m really psyched

Meet out main gal: Fanni Liú

Shes 16, Chinese-Canadian. Currently lives in Maryland as an exchange student at Marriotts Ridge High School (later known as Marriott’s Ridge Academy).

On the verge of failing her classes at any given point in time. Her friends and peers describe her as a person full of laughter and kindness.
