I absolutely love Huizhao and Haode—their romance is so tasty! But, and spoiler for Episode 26 ahead, there’s one glaring question that feels impossible to ignore.
What happens when they have children and one of them faces the same danger his little sister once did? What if, in that moment, he chooses duty over them? Haode might accept it if it were her own life on the line, but would she be able to forgive him if it were their children? Or one of her sisters? Or even her mother? Could she truly move past him sacrificing the people she loves most?
So where does that leave them? If Haode and her sisters have thought about this, they’re probably waiting for Huizhao to soften. And while he has changed, it’s still uncertain whether he’ll ever let go of his core belief: duty above all. He sacrificed his own sister (and mother) for that principle, after all.
I really hope this situation never comes up, but given how many life-threatening situations Haode has already faced in such a short time as his wife, it doesn’t feel like a stretch.
I love Huizhao’s growth, but in the end, I wouldn’t choose him. And honestly, expecting someone to change something this fundamental about themselves isn’t fair to either of them. That’s why I don’t think Haode should pick him either.
But this is a romance drama, so I’m sure that, given enough time to grow, he’ll make the right choice.
